Hello there everyone! I passed nclex last march2010. Prior to that I've had experience at our local blood bank for a year as a nurse and 3 months experience at a local hospital. (also a nurse here in my country) I'm arriving there in the US this december 2010 and am frantic at the possibility of not being able to find work when i get there. so i looked for staffing agencies. One agency called global healthcare already contacted me and is asking for a copy of my high school and college diploma, rn license id here in the philippines, birth certif and passport. They're not asking for placement fees (a good sign at leas), but I'm not comfortable about everything else they're asking for. Is it standard procedure to give out a copy of birth certif and passport?

Off topic, but are there hospitals hiring near riverside california?

Staffing agencies are usually best left to experienced nurses since they expect you to hit the ground running with no orientation.

I will leave aside the question about experience/staffing agencies for the moment since your question seems to be about the trustworthiness of the agency. That is, giving them a copy of your birth certificate and passport. It is not unusual for any and all documents to be requested by a reputable agency but it sounds like you aren't certain that this one is. You should do research about the agency itself to be sure you are dealing with a reputable agency (Web site, google search, Better Business Bureau, etc). If you are certain you are dealing with a reputable agency I wouldn't hesitate to give them any documents they request, but I would hand them over in person or send them by a guaranteed secure mailing system - not regular mail.

Well,I am not sure about this...I just earned my RN license on September 2010 in Oregon too.I didnt have any experiences as RN in United State ,but I was RN in Thailand for 6 years..but when you apply for jobs here in United State they wont count the experience in my country at all! They would think and hire you as a new graduate. While I was trying to earn my RN License here I worked in nursing home memory care department as a caregiver for 1 1/2 years( I have been here in United State only 2 years,so this is my new country ! ) after I got RN License on September 2010 I still working in nursing home as caregiver and this company didnt have any RN Position available for me so I kept working on job hunting anywhere else.I didnt need any staffing agencies because most of them need at least 1 year experience as RN in united State, they wont count any years of experience in your back home country..and all of my nurse friends said that too..2 weeks ago I got a job offer from one nursing home they would pay me as new grads for 21.84/hr ,its kind of low pay but not too bad but the problem was little bit far so I denied the job...Now I got a job offer from insurance company as a RN and not too bad salary for 58K annually...So I would like to tell you that if you keep applying for jobs , one day would be your lucky day...but it is difficult to find jobs in hospitals now coz they dont want to hire new grads or no experience nurses..but you can try SNF....Good luck to you
