Staff Nurse from Nepal need Help

Published

I have completed Staff Nurse Course in Nepal. Staff Nurse is a three years nursing degree in Nepal. I am currently a registered Nurse in Nepal.

I am currently studying in an University in Texas in Bachelor's degree. I am in my first semester and I am looking forward to complete my Bachelor's degree in Nursing. I am in a dependent visa.

Since, I already have a nursing degree in Nepal, I am interested to work as a Registered Nurse in US before I complete my degree. I am not sure how to proceed further. I also heard that not all States accept foreign nurses. Somebody please suggest.

Thank you.

Since you are going to school in Texas, ask the school of nursing to assist you to get your RN, I don't think you can graduate from a RN-BSN program without your RN. Also if you are on H4 visa usually you can't work but check with immigration about the legalities.

There is plenty of information on this site, on how to apply for international diploma to be evaluated, usually the first step is to contact the Board of Nursing were you live and ask the process of having your education evaluated.

What sort of visa are you on? You will need to meet state requirements and pass NCLEX to be able to work as long as your visa allows you to work. If on a H4 then you are not going to be able to work

I am on H4 Visa. I am expecting that I will have green card in next 2 years. I was looking into CGFNS website and they say that I have 3 steps to follow - Application, CGFNS Exam and TOEFL. I am not sure when I need to give NCLEX. Please suggest.

Can I apply to green card from H4 status if I somehow manage to get RN?

US is under retrogression and has been since Oct 06 (current VB is no visas and none available until the next visa year) so has your other half already applied for GC and what country was they born in? Depending on country and EB category could still be looking at several years wait for a GC. If you apply now for a GC you will be further back in the queue and again depends on which country you was born in.

You do not need CGFNS exam unless the state requires it and only a handful now do. If the state doesn't require it (and Texas doesn't) then just concentrate on NCLEX as that is required by all states to work as a nurse

Steps are

Apply to state BON and meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse. CES may be required from CGFNS if the CP exam isn't

English exam

I would suggest a good read in this forum

Apply for VSC if applying for GC yourself, if getting GC through your other half then you do not need to apply for it

Hi Sarmi,

I'm also from Nepal and I'm in H4 visa too here in US. I've applied for licensure in Colorado board of nursing. But, I'm also thinking about the option to go for BSN. Did you ever take bridging courses before you start your BSN? Help me how to proceed on this!

Thanks,

kanchula

You will be affected by retrogression and have several years wait for a immigrant visa once you have found a employer and they have filed immigrant application for you

@aruncha...............Silverdragon102 is right...it's too hard to get the job over here.........since my RN license process is taking too long ....so meanwhile I'm doing the CNA training to get the job in the medical field.......so far i think it's a good idea to start ...........anyways try hard and good luck ............

It is not a bad thing to get US RN license, if you apply to Texas board o nursing I believe you don't need to go through CGFNS program but you require to undergo your course evaluation process which usually takes about 1-2 month and you can do it through CGFNS and other institutions as mentioned in the board website. Regarding working in US, as a dependent u won't be able to do so. The best thing for you will beto wait for you GC through ur spouse, till then complete your BSN with flying colours. I am from NEPAL as well btw.

Hi Sarmi,

I would suggest you to choose the state first where you want to apply? My friends (pcl nursing ) they did the process from NY. so look at their web site and print and fill the form and sent to BON with check. and tell your parents to sent all the documents in BON address. The NY will let you know if they need additional documents. However if you are enrolling in BSN here in USA it is wise to go through CAlifornia. because they are quick in processing. keep reading NCLEX and as soon as you get the ATT you can give the exam.

All the best,

shubharatri :)
