Does anyone have any details about the nursing program at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center of Queens? Has anyone attended the school or received an acceptance for Fall 2006?

I graduated from CMC Queens in 1997. Great school. Really prepares you for working. What other questions do you have?

hello Kim, thanks for your willingness to share! I'm thinking about applying to st. vincents...i'd like to know how you did it...i mean...I think this school is meant for people who don't work since I believe classes are only offered during the day....
how much is the tuition? I am currently taking my pre-requisites at QCC.
any advice is GREATLY appreciated!
Hi lilyv727,
It is a daytime program. The applications for this year are closed. I know they will be sending out application packets beginning in October for September 2007. The nursing tuition is $270 per credit. They work with QCC for the non-nursing courses. The only other programs I know of that have evening options are QCC and Beth Israel's ATOP program.
Thanks Kim! I need a backup plan in case QCC doesn't accept me, I am finishing up A&P I and will most likely get a grade of B at the end of my final...QCC's program is very competitive because it's the cheapest out of all school's....I will call in October to receive an application packet in the meantime I will be taking A&P II in the fall.
Are you an RN now? How was your transition? Did you work at nights?

I'm thinking about going to St. Vincent also. They told me if you have a associate degree with all the Science & Lab prereqs. They'll allow you to take the RN program for two years and get your bach. I won't have my Bach. until next year May. Also they said you have to apply in AUGUST, not Oct. four 2007.

Hello,
I have a friend applied to St. Vincent's and QCC last year. She was rejected from St. Vincent's due to limited seat available and accepted to QCC. She also applied to St. Vincent's as a backup plan. She did all her nursing pre-requ. at QCC with all A's. I think there is a admission test for St. Vincent's and from what I hear, it's pretty hard.
Good luck!
Hi,
There is a 3 hour admissions exam (not the NLN-PAX), which is SVCMC's own admission exam and is considered "moderately difficult". When I took the test, many students were not able to complete the exam during the 3 hours. I barely finished with about 2 minutes to spare in each section.

I'm graduating from SVCMC this year, class of 2006. Woo! :mortarboard: I remember the entrance exam to be relatively easy (and I'm from far from being an egg-head). Just purchase the book SVCMC suggested and you should be fine. There is NO science portion on the exam. I had a great experience at SVCMC, the instructors were always around to help you. But expect to take constructive criticism from them as in any nursing program. There are about 49 students in my graduating class. It was a great learning environment for me because of the instructors and my peers. There was no sense of cut-throat competition and everyone was there to help one another. Their clinicals are strongly based on med-surg. They have VERY brief rotations in obstetrics, psych, OR, peds.
Not too many posts about SVCMC, why is that?
daillpnut,
Thank you for your post! I just returned my acceptance documents. I am glad to hear the positive feedback on SVCMC.
Congratulations on your success and good luck on the NCLEX!

I'm thinking about applying to svcmc also. But, i attend Laguardia C.C. will they even think to consider the pre reqs from laguardia?
Hi mzthang2260,
They will accept your LaGuardia credits for the non-nursing courses. They use CUNY Queensborough as the college to obtain any other non-nursing courses once you are in the program.
