St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center advice??

Published

I would like any advice you can give me about the nursing program at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center (near St. John's University in Jamaica, NY). Do their graduates find nursing jobs easily upon graduation from their ASN program? Also, which 4-year colleges are willing to accept their transfer credits toward a BSN later on? I am looking into full-time study for the fall of 2008 (I already hold a BA in a non-related area). Thanks in advance.

I'm so sorry if I can't offer much help to you. My mother graduated from this school years ago LPN for many years. A few other students were LPNs and some were "off the streets." ALL of the students found jobs right after passing the NCLEX. Let me tell you something. Sometimes a BSN may have more opportunity but employers really want to know that you passed the NCLEX. My mother has been a Home Care Nurse Manager and held two supervisory positions at two nursing homes. She chooses not to work in the hospitals and has decided not to do her BSN for personal reasons and has since lost contact with the other students. However, one guy did his BSN online right away and another student went to NYU. She said the program was very strict. It's days full time. They send you to QCC to do the general ed. credits. Now they seem to want people who have taken science pre-reqs before apllying to the school. IMHO, if you didn't take them then you should look into Molly or Adelphi in LI where you can get a BSN. Best of luck in your decision!!!!!!!!!!!

My sister's friend graduated there and she had no problem finding a job. She actaully turned down jobs. I've only heard good things about St. Vincent's. Good Luck.

Ditto. I have only heard great things. And the person I know who graduated from there did all of her science courses with the nursing courses. Good Luck!

Hey Maryann... I'm also applying to this school along with Nassau VEEB... I haven't yet made up my mind on whether to go right for RN or do LPN first.... I'm a mother of 2 pregnant with my 3rd due in July, so I need money fast lol but not sure which I'll choose. I guess it depends on which accepts me in the program.

I graduated from SVCMC in june of 2003. I was recruited even before graduation. The school is a great school. I received a partial scholarship when I went there, I also graduated with honors. There is an entrance exam, you need to pass to get in. When I went there they only accepted 55 students each september and there were only two classes, freshmen and seniors. I am sure that they have increased the capacity now. There was also free parking right behind the school, which was great. Some BSN programs that require NLN acredidation from previous schools might not accept svcmc grads. But that is a smallamount. The school was once a diploma program ran by nuns. It has been around over 60 years, and does not advertise. There is another svcmc school in staten island as well. hope the info was helpful.
