Hello fellow nurses,
I moved to NJ after getting my BSN and passing the NCLEX. As most people know, the job market is tough. St. Peters University Hospital had an open house for New Grad RN's and they offered me an internship. The internship is unpaid, and they may or may not offer me a job at the end of the 6-8weeks. The nursing recruiter said that the hospital has a two part med math exam. Part one is med math and part two is pharmacology. I have no idea how many questions there are but I do know that I have to score at least and 85 on each part. I am trying to keep in mind that I am only a new grad and they can't expect me to be a walking drug guide, but my anxiety is getting the best of me. Has anybody had a New Grad Internship here that could shed some light on the pharmacology part of this exam?
Sincerely,
a very anxious new grad
I am a new grad. I finished nursing school with GPA 3.94 and always did well in Clinicals and school. I got into this free internship because I was still searching for a job so I thought to give it a try. I did both exams, did well in both and got into the free internship. I did 8 weeks of internship and at the end they didn't offer me a job but to continue with another free internship for more weeks. I was told by few nurses there that few interns before me didn't get a job at the end of their internship, so that got me worried but because I waited to hear from other places I stayed. Also, I had a bad feeling about the whole job while I was there, and I was right! I saw that they many times cancel days for per diem that already there and also cut hours for full time nurses. I was told that they can do it because the nurses at SPUH don't part of a union, so say goodbye to your vacation time. Thankfully I got a full time job right away. My advise to you, it was a waste of time, don't do it!

Just confirmed an interview for this internship... super nervous because I have never had a real interview. Can anyone tell me how long it was/how difficult the questions were? Also if anyone has recently accepted this position and has any advice or information regarding retention rates please share :)
