ST  Paul's school of nursing accredited?

Published

Hi, I'm a pre nursing student and looking to attend ST  Paul's school of nursing in Staten Island,ny. I was just wondering if anyone on here has attended the school or knows about it. I have been hearing that they are not accredited because they only have ABHES Accreditation. Upon graduation from the school and passing the NCLEX do you think I would have a problem getting a job from there or even in another state?

I know you guys can't predict hiring chances but in terms of accreditation is that a good School?

Hi, I'm also applying to this school as well, but the Queens location. I also heard about their accreditation. I hope once passing the NCLEX I won't have a hard time finding a job. I'm also applying to the Helene Fuld College of Nursing.

Hi Millar,  I applied for the may class as well  I know I been hearing it will be hard to get a job upon passing the NCLEX and I also applied to Helene Fuld but the only thing about that school is the area is really high crime.

I don't know anybody that went to SPSON. I just read reviews I saw online. One of my friends went to Helene Fuld and she reported it was a good school,  but also the neighborhood was not that great so I don't what I should do.

guys this program is not accredited. my cousin went here and he failed a course in his last semester. he tried to transfer to a CCNE accredited program and was told this program is not accredited so he could not transfer..he wasted 2 years at St. pauls, he now works at Apple. not to mention a professor at msv taught at st. pauls and she confirmed it is not accredited. just be cautious.

Thanks for your comment I believe it the School so sketch.

They do not have they important accreditation, ACEN. It will be harder to transfer credits for BSN programs.

If you are looking to work in New York, you need to know that the State now requires all nurses to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Nursing within 10 years of receiving their initial RN license - and other States are considering having the same law.  See here:

http://nursing.buffalo.edu/news-events/nurses-report.host.html/content/shared/nursing/articles/nurses-report/posts/BSN-in-10.detail.html

I understand that the attraction to St. Paul's (and other non-accredited programs) is that it is easy to get in, no need to take the PAX-RN/TEAS/HESI tests like what is required in CUNY and SUNY- but the problem with St. Paul's and other non-accredited schools is that their credits won't count towards a Bachelors degree - So, if you go to St. Paul's, what may happen to you is that you'll pass their program, then pass the RN test to get your license, but then (if you want to attend CUNY or SUNY) need to take the PAX-RN/TEAS/HESI test to get into a nursing program, anyways.

Or, you could pay a lot of money to attend a private four-year college, like Wagner, LIU or NYU.

Either way, the credits from the non-accredited school won't transfer - So, know that if you go to a non-accredited school, you are very likely wasting your time, even if you pass their program and get your nursing license.

edit: Another option is to get a Bachelors degree and then apply to a school that has a Bachelors-to-RN program - it will take the same amount of time if you had gone to St. Paul's and then a four-year college but at least the Bachelors degree will have some value - and it may be easier to get into a nursing program this way, I don't know.

I went there . They don't have full accreditation. If you go and pass chamberlain accepts their credits.

Were you able to pass your NCLEX after graduating?
