U.S.A. Pennsylvania

So who all in here is applying for St Margaret trying to get in for Feb start?

Already got application in?

Already heard back?

I only just got my application in this past week, so obviously haven't heard back?

If anyone has applied and heard back, how long did it take to hear?

Are you LPN program? Im not sure how their terms run. I just know next RN class doesnt graduate til october and has 2 terrms left. I don't think anyone on this thread can really help with your question. We all are either just started the RN program or there are several that will be starting the RN program in June.

I do know in searching this board for info on st margaret there was one person that did post several bitter posts about st margaret because of failing out at the very end, though I am not sure of which program. Thats the most I can help with. Though good luck. Hope to hear you do make it through.

I can't really offer any advice either. Sorry, I don't start until June. I hear already it is a very intense program and I worry about failing out although I know it will take my life and I know what it takes so I am hoping since I am going in with that attitude that I will make it! I heard the tricky part is the way the test questions are worded......ahh..nervous yet so excited because I am over taking my pre-req's!!!

WE GOT OUR PACKETS TODAY FOR OUR PRE-ADMISSION DAY TODAY! ITS MAY 26TH!! SOO EXCITED!!!

So that poses a question....how far after you guys started did you lose your excitement? still excited? I hope everybody here is still hanging on!

I haven't lost my excitement yet. I am still so excited. This class has 2 days left and then Basic Nursing 2 starts in May. I can't wait to see what we're going to be learning in the next class!!! I will say though that we started with 35 people and we are down to 29. I hope all 29 make it to the second class, but from what I've been hearing, I don't think everyone is going to. I feel bad for those who aren't making it. It takes so much work just to get this far, it would be so disappointing to fail out.

I am the queen of questions! I am just one that like to be prepared so I naturally have a million questions!

For St. Mag's do you carry a lot of stuff with you? What kind of bag do you use? I have been wanting a Vera Bradley bag for so long but not sure if it will be big enough if we need to haul a bunch of books/binders to class, or just stick with my boring ol' adidas back pack! HAH! 6 more weeks or so!!!

A few people do have Vera Bradley bags that I have noticed. A regular old back pack will work, too. So far, I haven't really carried my books to class. I have a a folder and a binder I keep all my power points in and that evening at home I read the book for that info. Some people bring in their laptops and just view the power points on them and make notes on them as the teacher talks. I am a better learner if I am actually writing the info down on paper - I guess I just remember it better that way.

awesome, thanks Tina! That is good to know that we don't have to lug the books to class just binders etc!!

The school tells you to bring in a "wheeled device" the first day of class to get your books to your car because there are so many of them. I kinda laughed at that a little bit, but let me tell ya it is definitely a good idea to do exactly that! Even a suitcase on wheels works. I swear the stack of books was probably three feet tall!! My eyeballs about popped out of my head when I saw all the books. LOL. We haven't used them all yet, but I'm sure we'll get there.

THREE FEET TALL!! LMAO!! I am going to have to get a bookshelf of some sort to put them on! Good lord!

I can't express my excitement enough about how happy I am that I finish up microbiology and that also finishes up my pre-req's! SOOO glad those are done with, I am ready to move on...!! :nurse:

Charlie, Kayla and I went and got fitted for our uniforms this week! We then went to the scrub shack to see what they all for shoes. We got these white landau shoes that feel AMAZING. We also got 20% of nurses week. :-)

We also got our physicals and name badges this week as well!

Next week is our meet and greet, and then our pre-admission day is the 26th. I am so excited. I know this is old news for you Feb starters! I remember being so jealous and excited when you guys were posting about going to these things, and in a blink of an eye, here I am! :-)

What all does the pre-admission day consist of? I am very excited for that!

Jguy, haven't heard from you for while, hope all is well! I work with a few students at the hospital and get pointers from them. I am dropping to casual though on June 19th, then I can pretty much work when I want to!

I am just so ready to go, and get this show on the road! I hear from everybody about how difficult the test questions are. I am worried about grasping that!

Good luck you to guys and I'll be seeing you soon!

Im around, just busy so not on here much.

First 3 foot stack of books is a little bit of an exaduration :lol2: its more like 2 and a half feet :p. I know i brought a very small suitcase and it was completely filled....if i had to by the one i had or the 2 i got online, they would not have fit. Part of preadmission day will be they will give you the full list of books, and you can pick what ones you want the school to order for you. You can let them know later then preadmission day so you can look up getting them cheaper or check if you have any. I already had tabers from medical terminoligy class i took, and only found 2 costing less new online.

They also do the uniform fittings/orders if you hadnt already...is easier to already have it done though. Other then that is a lot of info, about finantial aid, loans, tuition forgivness, getting you to sign a bunch of papers. make sure you have your clearances and cpr. give a lot of info. fire safety in a hospital. little lecture on organising time/studying/how to be successful.....pretty much making it clear that you wont have much time for things and will have to make changes in your life to get through. And it is true. I know when we had a study day at the end of the term a few of us went out to breakfast, and one girl didnt come because she wanted to try to catch up on laundery and cleaning since she hadnt cleaned her house all term. I meantioned I was so behind in laundery....ususally good bout getting my sons laundry done, but half the time i just got by throwing a few of my things in with his to get me through instead of doing another load. and basic 1 only need one uniform a week, so only had to do those every other week. Now we need 2. I know when we did meet and greet in nov the one girl in adult 1 told us that she got 2 uniforms and had only ever worn the one, suggesting only getting one....how she could do that i have no clue. So much paperwork to do night of pre clinical, first day of clinical on so little sleep, come home and more paper work and so dang tired, there is no way i am doing laundry to have the scrubs for the next morning.

Oh if you hadnt already got your stethoscope or scissors or pen light could get those at scrub shack this week too while they have the sale. :D I stopped to get another pair of comression socks there the other day.....had gotten 2 pair to try in basic 1, and the one pair i didnt like...the other pair i love they are so comfortable...just a bit expensive for socks....but if they stop from having vascular issues like vericose veins later on from always being of feet, its worth it.

Are they bringing you to the hospital to shadow on your meet and greet? If so I wonder where they will put you. they could put you with us, or with those that are in adult 2 if they are at st margarets.

How's the program? I'm starting Feb 2013... I know this thread is old but was just curious

Oh wow.......I started this thread. I graduated 4 weeks ago.....took boards 2 weeks ago and passed. So now an RN (about to update the name).

You are going to be in the last class going through the program as it is. All classes after you will be more like shadysides program.

I will say I loved the program. It is hard. It will kick your butt. May have times you doubt yourself or feel certain teachers hate you (they dont) But if you are not serious about it you wont make it. It is a lot of work and very fast paced. But if you do what you are supposed to do and work on getting through, you leave very well prepared to be a nurse.
