Hi: I was wondering if anyone had any information on St Joseph's medical center in Yonkers? Moreover, has anyone worked there or heard anything? What is the nurse/pt ratio? Pay? Is there tuition reimbursement? Please advise.

Specializes in ED.

My class fellow started this jan 08 at St Joseph, they have one year interim program which you have to rotate every floor and than you have to decide, which floor you have to start work. This program start in Feb.

Specializes in peds,home care, dietican.

Do you know the starting salary for new grads? Thank you.

Starting salary is in the range of $60,000 something annually for Associates Degree Prepared RNs. Bachelors Degree prepared RNs make $1500-2000 more annually. The nurse : patient ratio is variable depending on what floor you are on. There is no scope of being hired to specialty areas or the day shift since those positions are usually filled internally based on seniority applications. On medical-surgical and telemetry floors, the nurse : patient ratio may vary from 1:6-8 during the day shift, and 1:7-10 during the night shift.

St. Joseph's Medical Center has a 6-month long New Graduate Nurse Preceptorship Program wherein accepted new graduates are oriented to every area within St. Joseph's Medical Center. The participants of the program are bound by contract to work for certain period (one year or longer) at any vacant RN position on any shift that may open up at the hospital at the end of the 6-month program at the remuneration that is in effect at that time. In the event that there is more than one such vacant RN position at the end of 6 months, the participant may request to be considered for their choice of position. However, no promises are made.

The employee may request for tuition reimbursement by following policy up to a maximum amount of $3000 per year after successful completion of courses and submission of transcripts and receipts. There is no set processing time for these requests, and the employee will be reimbursed when their request has been thoroughly processed.

Do you work there? Because I was thinking of applying there too. Is this contract a binding contract where you actually have to sign paperwork is it just an act of good faith?

You have to sign a contract with St. Joseph's Medical Center.
