Hi everyone, I am a BSN graduate who just became licensed last month. I've always had a deep interest in pediatrics and have been applying to positions for months. I finally received a call back from St. Christopher's saying they'd like to interview me for a med/surg position. I'm VERY nervous (I know, I know, everyone hates interviews) because this will be a panel of interviewers . Does anyone have any advice on handling these types of interviews, particularly at St. Chris's? I'm going to be so nervous that I'm scared my excitement about the position will not be evident (although I'm ECSTATIC to be considered for a pediatric nurse position as a new grad )
Also, does anyone have any experience at St. Chris's as a new grad? What is the support like?
How is it in general working for this hospital as a nurse?
All advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey I know this is late but I am trying to get into peds too at St. Chris. I was wondering how your interview went, and how exactly you got a call back? Did you call the nurse recruiter and annoy her a lot? Or did you eventually just get a call back from her? Any information you have would be appreciated! Hope you got the job!
Hi! Yes, I did get the job! I started in September and I LOVE it. I really couldn't imagine myself anywhere else--the kids are great and I love the people I work with. It's a much smaller hospital than CHOP but thats why I like it--everyone knows everybody and the doctors really appreciate your help.
As far as the interview process went...I just eventually got a call back from the recruiter. I would check the website daily for any new postings and apply immediately to a posting that matches your interest. I ended up getting a call the next day for an interview. The interview itself was both professional and laid back and I ended up leaving more interested in the position than I was going in! It's been a great place to work so far. And I'm a new nurse and have found everyone to be helpful and theres a lot of resources to help me out.
Good luck!

Congrats on getting the job! I started there this past January, so we may have crossed paths!
Congrats to both of you! So glad you are enjoying your job! Did you apply for the positions that said peds/hospital experience required? I dont see any for new grads, but I was just wondering if they just put that there?
I only applied for experience preferred jobs. IMO in Philadelphia it's wasted time to try for experience required jobs and you run the risk of being seen as an application spammers if you apply to too many jobs at one hospital. You news to check hospital sites daily for jobs open to new grads. They do go up but come down quickly so you want to catch them when they go up.

New grad rate in Philly is pretty standard with most new grads I know starting at $27-28 an hour.

For those of you that were lucky enough to get a job at St. Chris as a new grad how did you go about doing so? I submitted lots of apps but have yet to here anything! I also have experience working as a nurse tech in a childrens hospital so I am not sure why I dont here anything back. If you don't mind me asking did any of you have previous experience and what was your GPA. ANY info you can give me will be great!
Also good luck at your new job, I bet it is greattt!
I know the last comment was back in November, and I hope you have found a job by now, but I will try to answer your questions anyway! For any hospital, I would suggest checking the job sites daily for new postings. The position that I hold now at St St. Chris was posted one day (I had been checking multiple times a day everyday so this posting was only up for a few hours) and got a call the next day for an interview. There was "experience preferred" listed. In my opinion, St. Christopher's is very willing to accept new graduates on a regular basis....I guess its just the massive volume of applicants that makes it seem otherwise! And no, I had no previous experience, the best I had on my resume for pediatrics was that I was part of my school's Pediatric Society (basically a club that raised money and volunteered at certain public health events). My GPA was a 3.7. It's been a ride, but I'm still loving everything about my job! (besides the dreaded night shift haha) Every day I'm learning more and more and can see myself growing with every week. Good luck!
I also applied within hours of the posting going up. You really have to stalk the hospital websites and be among the first in the pile.
