Hey ya'll!
I am an applicant who applied to UT Health Science center for the Fall of 2017. I found the allnurses forum so useful for all of the students that were currently going through the same process was.
I wanted to start another forum for the next year for all the applicants so they were able to share ideas, stats, background etc.
So i'll start:
HESI A2:
A&P 80
Math 98
Grammar 94
Reading 92
Vocab 96
I have a previous degree from Texas State University in Psychology (Bachelors).
Science GPA: 3.812
Nursing Pre-req: 3.512
Cumulative (155hrs): 3.2
I hope this helps and you get as much out of this as I did. I met some really awesome people on here who are all on the journey to becoming great nurses. Don't hesitate to say hi!
You sound like you are in a really similar place that I'm in. I have like 155 credit hours (161 after this summer) with grades that range from W-A's. I want a career path that is lucrative and stable. I work in a clinic now and really enjoy what I do. But I want to be more on the medical side of things. Plus I hate sitting at a desk all day. I need a job that keeps me on my feet and active. You'll get in man. I've been working on this about as long as you have and I think it gets to a point where you need to take a step back, collect your thoughts, and figure out how to go about this realistically and practically. I got to a point where I didn't want to take anymore entrance exams or retake anymore classes because people with even lower GPA's and stats were getting in. I thought if they could then there is no need for me to. BUT, our transcripts show our academic history (good/bad) as opposed to some who have literally only taken pre-req hours to get into this program. So retaking our classes and retaking our entrance exams are where our opportunity is going to be for us to shine. Otherwise, we either won't stand out or our transcripts will make us appear as inconsistent (mine at least with all of the W's). So keep pushing through. If this is what we want we will find a way :)
Hi jdkaggs. Did you get notification from st Thomas? I think you applied for that school too right?

Hi JJfutureRN!
No, I haven't. I don't think I got in. I have a friend that applied there and already received her letter. But I am TOTALLY okay with it. They sent me my financial aid awards thing and it was like 48,000 (not including the grant) for a year. No way! Plus I don't want to spend three years in a program when I already have my Bachelors. So I am okay that I didn't get accepted. UT Health is definitely my first choice.

I received alternative letter but I was thinking the same. Is too expensive since is a private school and too long. But I do have a classmate that is at UT that's started last semester and that 15 students have been placed on hold already which means they are retaking this semester and that many are saying is a lot since is a 15 month program. But I am older with the two kids and 3 years is too long. I was wondering cuz I had recalled we both applied at UT and st Thomas .

Totally. I agree. It's just not worth the time and money if there are other less expensive options. May I ask what you meant by 15 students being placed on hold and having to retake the semester? Does that mean that they failed? You're talking about UT Health right?
Hello guys. For us who are reapplying to UT, where do we re apply?TEAS: any tips? Does anyone have the TEAS PREP BoOk for sale??
Thanks
Hey there! We just got to the UT Health website and click on the "Apply Now" button. However, if you applied for a prior semester you'll use the same student ID that you had to login to your account as well.
As far as the TEAS book goes, you can get it on Amazon for pretty cheap. You just wont get the free practice tests that would come with it if you bought it off of the ATI website. The book is a lot smaller than the previous one. I think the information was condensed. I hope that helps!

Yes.. she said pretty much failed this semester so they just have to take this same course next semester so they'll be a semester behind the class they started with .

Oh wow, that sucks. So I wonder what that would mean for the people applying now? Would they accept less applicants because those people would be taking up spaces in the first semester classes? If that makes sense ....

That is something that did cross my mind... how does that work. That wouldn't be fair for future applicants.. one question we can ask .

HAHA. Right? We all seem to be pretty familiar with one another based on the last semester of chaos and nervousness.
I submitted mine almost the day after the admissions decisions went out for the Fall. I wasn't trying to waste any time. LOL.
I am not applying anywhere else just yet. I am going to give myself all of next year to apply to UT Health and then reevaluate everything from there. I'm determined to get in there. So we will see.
Best of luck though. I am confident one of us will get in in the Spring of 2018!
