Spring 2016: USF CA Non- RN MSN Program

Published

Hi guys,

Starting a new thread for USF Ca MSN for Non RN's program.... just submitted my app!!! Super anxious but I am glad I submitted early!!!! Anyone else submitted applications???

Mine says the same thing.

I'm just thinking the selection process works. Do they read all the app before making decisions or they read one stack at a time...I read the previous threads and usf applicants mentioned they got calls at different weeks. Some get calls on Thanksgiving week, some get it one to few weeks after. Oh well, I think too much.

My account still says that my application is submitted & will be reviewed after the deadline. Any one else who has not heard anything yet-- is that what yours says? No news = good news right?! Just stay positive, there is still plenty of time left! We can relax this weekend since I don't believe anyone will be contacted the rest of the week because everyone will be off enjoying their holiday. :-)

Same here. Have a good holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Let's not let the stress ruin our holidays.

I wanted to reassure those that are still waiting for a decision. I checked my online account last Tuesday and it still said application submitted. I have not received a phone call either, but yesterday in the mail, I received an large envelope containing a single sheet of paper. I dreaded opening it, but I'm so glad I did because I GOT IN! So if you haven't heard anything, don't stress because it doesn't mean anything except that you haven't heard back yet. Stay positive and don't give up hope. Good luck to all of us!

Congrats @NicoleBeamish! I think most decisions are available as of today!

Greetings,

Congrats to all who have received their acceptances. I graduated in May from USF from the MSN program and am grateful to be both an RN an CNL. I thought I would check in and offer to answer any questions you might have. If any of you live in San Jose I would also be up to meeting with you. Hang in there offers I am sure are still being made. Some will end up on a waiting list. Don't give up until you hear either way.

You're right in my town! I would live to meet up to ask questions and some good, sound advice!

Please let me know how to contact you!

I just called USF and the lady who picked up the phone said that she thinks they will have all the decisions in the beginning of December.

Hi 2dogsandaguy,MSN

Does USF really look into volunteer experience and personal statement? I think my personal statement is considered ok already. I wrote about my health experience and how that relate to the CNL role. I only asked my colleague to look over my ps to check for grammar mistakes, but I don't know if that is enough. I don't know how competitive I am as an applicant, because it really depends on the applicant pool. My overall GPA isnt that great and there is no way I can change my past. I would like to know how to increase the chance of getting into the program.

I calley USF today and the lady who picked up the phone said that final decisions should be available in the beginning of December. Today is 12/1 already, but I still didn't receive any calls nor emails. I checked USF account and it only showed "to be reviewed after deadline."

I really want to stay in the bay area with my mom instead of going out of state for school.

Please give me some tips in how to improve my app. Thanks.

GN2b The personal statement is a big part of how USF looks at candidates. If you haven't been to an information session I would highly suggest you do go. I am not sure they are still going this late in the year. You have to be assertive and talk with the admission folks at the info sessions they are great at answering questions and do a good job at laying out what they expect from their applicants. It also gets you noticed and if they know your name it certainly does not hurt. That being said, in your case do not compare yourself to others, everyone has a story and it differs from yours. You have to be positive. Based on how you describe your situation, I can almost assure you that "just OK' personal statements don't get you noticed. Don't sweat the gpa, as you said it is in the past. It really isn't at the very top of what USF looks for in their candidates. With all this said there are different permutations and different cases where it may come down to gpa, life is that way. I won't share my undergrad gap with you but it wan't that great, and what I mean by it wasn't that great.......It was not all that great. But my USF gpa was really great.. There you go. Your gpa does not define you.

Now, with all that said, Don't ever submit anything you think is just ok.

Finally, no news is good news! You still have an opportunity. Your app has most likely been reviewed, so hold on. Wait and see what happens. If things are not in your favor let's talk. I can review your personal statement and give you some pointers.

I guess what I am lacking in my ps is the way how I presented it. It does not sound outstanding even though the ingredients are good or great...I dont know how to judge myself whether it is great, good or ok...

Bad part is that I don't have any volunteering experience because I work full time and take few classes each semester. I don't have the time. I guess I should consider volunteering in hospitals.
