Quite honestly - you will miss out on these the whole time you're in school - just look towards the end when it starts to get tough to remind yourself why you're doing it - that works for me!

If you're looking for experience to add to your resume - working for 1 month PT and then quitting doesn't look good to an employer - you may want to consider looking for a PRN (as needed) or very part time position that you can do long term to build a better history.

Spring semester is starting this month on the 16. I am also enrolled in the CNA program at Century College, but I was wondering what some of the experienced professions think or their opinions on my upcoming school/work schedule.

I will be a full-time student taking CNA program during the night, 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. I will most likely work third shift afterwards at a nursing home for four to five hours (10 p.m. - 3 a.m.) and probably volunteer at a hospital in the morning, around 6 a.m. - 8 a.m.? Does anyone think this will be too much for me? Of course, this will only last a month. After I pass my CNA program, hopefully, I will not work third shift anymore. I believe I could last a month, but I would most likely miss out on family gatherings, study/homework, and "me" time. I do not know what to do. Give me your honest opinions and advice :)

If you are wondering why I am doing so much at once, that is because I have not had any experience - which is why I want to volunteer at a hospital, Regions. I also need to work to earn extra cash for my tuition, books, and bills.

Hi Choua! wow that is a big load! well if it is only 1 month that it should be ok. But remember to have some time to study, practice your skills, and sleep. Are you doing to RN program at Century after that?

Just to update you folks, I did not work third shift while taking my CNA. I did pass my state exam I am now trying to find a place to work. I was thinking about Cerenity. Is there any other places that you guys would recommend me? A facility that is. I need to get reimbursment cause I borrowed $589 from my parents and need to pay them back

Reimbursable Expenses

Nursing assistants who pay for the cost of their training and testing prior to employment are eligible for reimbursement. The nursing assistant has 1 year from completion of the test to turn in receipts requesting reimbursement. The facility has 90 days to reimburse the nursing assistant. If the nursing assistant does not remain employed as a nursing assistant for 90 days, the nursing home is under no obligation to reimburse the nursing assistant. The first nursing home the nursing assistant stays at for a least 90 days would then be responsible to reimburse the nursing assistant if it has been 1 year or less since completion of the test. Only certified nursing homes or boarding care homes are required to reimburse a nursing assistant.

are you a CNA as well, or an RN? i tried applying for volunteer work at Regions in December of 06, and someone called to tell me they will send me an application, but i never received the papers. oh well. maybe next time. hehe. -Choua
