  1. From MN Dept of health: Reimbursable Expenses Nursing assistants who pay for the cost of their training and testing prior to employment are eligible for reimbursement. The nursing assistant has 1 year from completion of the test to turn in receipts requesting reimbursement. The facility has 90 days to reimburse the nursing assistant. If the nursing assistant does not remain employed as a nursing assistant for 90 days, the nursing home is under no obligation to reimburse the nursing assistant. The first nursing home the nursing assistant stays at for a least 90 days would then be responsible to reimburse the nursing assistant if it has been 1 year or less since completion of the test. Only certified nursing homes or boarding care homes are required to reimburse a nursing assistant. Link: www.heath.state.mn.us Follow the links related to the Nursing Assistant Registry.
  2. Out of the mouth of babes! My son once told Grandma that "my mom does drugs". She, of course, wasted no time to find out what was up with that...He learned that "nicotine was a drug" in school. You just never know what they'll think of next!
  3. i've heard several different terms used, but i'm not sure what exactly it would be called besides a 60 day episode using one of the weeks below: there's the "medicare week" which is the rolling start of care week and quite confusing when determining missed visits because you have to know what day of the week the episode started on and each client is different. then there's the typical "calendar week" which is sunday through saturday. if the soc is on a wednesday then week one is wednesday through saturday and the remaining weeks sun-sat. you just have to watch the end day and make sure that it is 60 days. finally, there's the "agency designated week". we use this. it runs wednesday - tuesday and coincides with our payroll and billing cycles. you have to watch the 60 days. for example if you do the admit on a monday, the 60th day actually falls in the 10th week making the frequency 2w1, 7w8, 2w1.

We take call every 8 weeks and are on "back-up" (also every 8 weeks) when a LPN is scheduled on call. So, twice in 4 months. Call is for 7 days at a time. For the regular week of call we get paid $210. For back-up we get paid $70 and have to approve any visits made by the LPN and be available to them for any questions that may arise as they triage the calls. If (and it's very rare) a resumption of care needs to be done, the RN on call/back-up would do it. We don't use our "On-Call" nurse as the person who gets stuck with whatever doesn't get done during the day.
  5. I can hardly wait for the next 6 - 9" forcasted for tonight/tomorrow! YUCK.
  6. I did the RN - BSN route through JU and the prereqs that I didn't already have through St. Leo. I had to take a computer course, history, religion, philosophy, statistics (ugh), and an art appreciation class.
  7. I finished the JU program in August 2005. I felt it well worth the $, time, and effort. It's a tough program, but well worth it. I survived the "big paper" for each course, and finished with a good GPA. Are you taking any of the Saint Leo classes or do you have all the generals completed already? Best of luck to you.
