Spring 2011 Samuel Merritt ABSN- Nursing CAS

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Question:

Does anyone has a complete list of what does need to be sent to NursingCAS?

I understand the transcripts, letters of reference (electronic), as well as the app fee goes directly to them. Do we still need to complete the writing sample portion or just the personal statement that is available on the NursingCAS?

Do I also need to send my letter of good standing from my previous nursing school and my request of transfer statement to NursingCAS or to SM?

I sent an email out the a counselor, but I would just like to know because I am very confused... ;)

I also live in Sac, work FT & have a son, so there is no opportunity to go to a counseling appointment unless I take off work.

Thank you!!

Originally that is what I did, multiplied the units by 4, but they want us to write what the amount is under units on our transcript. My understanding is that credits are equivalent to units, just different wording.

Yes, so we need to enter our UNITS, not CREDIT hours. Most classes are 3 or 5 units...

Hmm, that is weird. It makes more sense to put simply the number of units for the course (ie. 3 unit class) rather than the credit hours. However, if that's the case, why do they give us a range to choose from 0.00 to 20.00? (I would assume that 20.00 credit hours represents the 5 unit courses).

When I spoke to the CSR at NursingCAS, she told me the only reason you would enter credit hours was if the credit hours werent listed on your transcript...

I'll email them and see if they give a more clear response. I'll let you two know once I hear back from them :p

My university transcript uses units only....but then I also took a few classes at community colleges which lists both units and credit hours...I don't know what to put down anymore =/

See, I don't either in your case, because all my schools list both units and credit hours/grade points/credit points. They have a number of different names. But please get a clarification so we know exactly what to put. This is crazy!! :uhoh3:

I called them and emailed them for clarification. They want UNITS only -- no multiplying by 4 :)

Thank you too. We have to collaborate on this new application system to make sure it is fair and equal for everyone applying especially since it's new...

Do you know if we can submit our application even if we are still waiting on the letter of recs? :)

We have to enter every single class for all colleges we have ever taken, right? Not just the ones that apply to the programs for which we are applying?

BandAid- I am pretty sure you can but I don't know if I would. I would feel more comfortable being able to see that they had been received prior to submitting the app.

AndyPants- Yes, every single class ever taken. Crazy!

I submitted my app last week I believe and they already have my GPA calculated, even though they said it would be up to 5 weeks- Pretty good I say!

Under "Professional Experience", are we supposed to list every (significant) job we've worked, even if it is unrelated to nursing?

I have been with the same company for 6 years now, but had a million table-waiting jobs before then... I don't know whether they want to see all that or not. Hmmm...
