Spring Quarter Stress/Burnt Out

I'm in my 3rd quarter, first year ADN program and have been really, really stressed and SICK TO DEATH of school. To top it off, I have to go this summer to pick up a pre-req I need before the second year. Usually, I'm really motivated, but for some reason I'm having a really hard time this quarter. I'm sure it's because I'm nearing the end of year 3 in school (after 2 years of pre-reqs) but what will get me out of this rut? Is it mind over matter? Any one else feeling this way or have felt this way.....what did you do? :o

I feel the same as you do. Lately I have had very little motivation. It just seems as though I'm getting nowhere fast because of all the pre-reqs. I'm just ready to actually start the program. And I'm really looking forward to a break this summer.

*raises hand* I'm right there w/ ya. I'm just wrapping up my 3rd full year of FT school and 3rd semester in nrsg program. I'm actually just ending level 2 - had to drop & repeat 1st clinical d/t a hospitalization last Spring (long story). I am sick to death of studying and exams and clinical! I haven't been able to get into a groove since Spring Break (that was a joke - we had 2 exams the 1st Monday after the holiday). Not to mention, I keep thinking if I hadn't gotten sick, I'd be graduating in Dec, not NEXT May. ergh! It's hard to be motivated these last 2 weeks - I *so* don't feel like studying for finals!

Hang in there. It will be over soon. I think about where I was a year ago and how far I've come. In hindsight, it went by quickly enough. So I hope the rest does too. It will be nice to take a break from med/surg next semester & do OB/pedi/MH - nice change of scenery.

Yep....I think Spring Break is what did it for me. Everything was great until those two, glorious weeks off. Although, I didn't have tests when I got back. Now that it's finally sunshining here, it's even worse. I sit and stare out my home office window while studying thinking about working in the yard. Yes, there is an end in sight.....I'll keep that in mind. 3 years down and 1 more to go! :)

Nursing school is definitely an endurance test. Try to balance your life with something you enjoy, and make time for yourself without feeling guilty. You have to take care of your spiritual side too, or you will not feel whole. Taking care of yourself puts you in better position to take care of others. Good luck! And yes, we have been there. It is a tough career choice.

Hey, you're definitely not alone in this. I'm just finishing my 3rd year and I have to say, I'm ready to be done. Motivation sometimes needs to be supplied by someone other than yourself....it's just too hard to find at times like this. Take a look around you for someone who you know who can uplift your spirits. He or she is out there, waiting for the opportunity to be a good friend.
