I figured I'd start this since there wasn't one yet, even though it's pretty early!
I just took the Kaplan test today and got an 85% overall and have a 3.95 GPA. What do you guys have?
Since there are no letters of recommendations needed or experience this year, I'm nervous that our admittance is just based on our Kaplan score and GPA! Anyone else nervous about that?
I'm going to submit my application soon since everything is done!

Hi there,
I am also applying for the Spring 2014 program. My GPA is around a 3.75. I take the kaplan in about 2 1/2 weeks. I am very nervous about it. How did you study for it? I am really hoping to get into the flagstaff location, seeing as I am already a student there now. What location are you applying for?
Oh! And I am also nervous about our admittance being based solely off of our Kaplan and GPA. I wish there was an interview or something else involved too.
I used the book to study but it didn't help AT ALL! Especially for the reading section. There were a lot of definitions in the study book, but none on the actual test, but had stuff like verbs, objects, etc. I did the worst on that part because there really weren't any good answers! As for the math, it's super basic stuff, but the A & P part is pretty impossible to study for. There were either super specific questions or super broad!
I am applying for the Flagstaff one as well since I've lived here my whole life and go to NAU now!
And yes, I wish there were interviews at least!
Objects and verbs? Now I feel even less prepared than before haha. Well your GPA and Kaplan sound great. I'm sure you will get in. I hope my Kaplan and GPA are good enough. It's going to be a long wait!

Hey guys i just took the kaplan, i didnt get what i hoped for (overall 74%) , there weren't many questions per section so each question was worth a lot. Im applying to the Yuma and the Flagstaff programs. I have around a 3.9 GPA in the requisite classes. i really hope i get in. what were your grades everyone? Is anyone else applying to the Yuma campus?
I took the Kaplan today and scored:
95% reading
96% math
95% writing
80% science.
92% overall.
Man the science part was tough! No real way to study for it. All A&P. I have a 3.93 gpa. I am applying for Tucson campus.
I know I already posted, but I was in a hurry the first time and didnt say much, so I wanted to offer some encouragement and advice. First and foremost, good luck to all of you!! I hope you get in! As I said, I just started my first semester so I know EXACTLY how you feel right now. Relax and find a way to distract yourselves, it's going to feel like a lonnnnnnnnnnng time before you get that letter... Find something so you don't go absolutely crazy in the meantime :)
I'm only a month in, but I absolutely love it so far. The faculty are great and are there to help. The beginning of school is VERY overwhelming, but don't be afraid to ask for help. There are people there to help you and they are glad to do it. I only have direct experience with the Tucson campus, but the students in other cohorts are also willing to help and want to see everyone to succeed. There's SNA and a mentor program (you get paired with a student in the cohort before yours) which help bond the cohorts and allow "access" to other students for help and advice.
Something that can easily get confused are the acceptance letters. Don't be fooled by the letter to accept you to NAU itself, it comes much quicker than the program acceptance and can easily be confused for the acceptance letter. The acceptance letter comes in a large Manila envelope with lots of paper, you gotta wait for that to arrive :)
From what I've *heard* (here say, not actual information from administration), the reason for doing away with community service and recommendation letters was because a lot of people were lying on them... So there wasn't a lot of merit or consideration taken into them anyways, so don't let that scare you!
Like I said, if you guys have any questions or anything, please ask! There were a couple current students on the thread we had going for our cohort (fall 13) and they were EXTREMELY helpful, so I'd love to return the favor and pay it forward :)
Laura, did you find that the Kaplan test prep book helped you or though? Was there something you wished you studied harder for? I take mine Thursday and I'm very nervous!
Amd23,
Which program (location) did you find to be most competitive? Did you ever hear that already attending NAU as a prenursing student helped your chances getting in more than someone else who does not go to NAU and applied? Someone recently told me that your chances applying shoot up the second time you apply. She said that it is VERY difficult to get in your first time applying. It seems quite a few people are applying with 4.0's or close. Did you know of people getting in with lower scores? Thanks :)
Good luck to everyone. I'm sure we're all nervous (I know I am!!). How is everyone else feeling?
