Spring 2019 Lone Star Hopefuls

Published

I've decided to make this page for anyone applying for the Spring 2019 ADN program at Lone Star CF/K. I'm so nervous and it's still kinda far away! Good luck!

But this week is a big week for me because not only am I waiting on the acceptance letters, I am also in the hiring process at DaVita for a dialysis tech position. I'm super excited and nervous!

when you hear back from davita, let me know how you like your new position! i've considered applying with them but i haven't heard anything super great, recently, about them. BUT i haven't heard anything in the recent past so tell me if you love it! i know one of the things that stopped me was the decrease in pay coupled with the having to pay out of pocket for their insurance. other than that, i didn't mind the 12-14 hour shifts (i thought it would most prepare for nursing), but again, that's what i read/heard about the past. Hopefully they got their stuff together and you're able to balance their work with school! Good luck!

Yes the pay sucks, but to be honest I think it's fair because I have absolutely no healthcare experience. They're actually helping me get my ccht certification. I thought it would be great conditioning for me to transition into nursing. I didn't read good things about them, but I had a friend in A&P work there and she said she loves it. I actually shadowed Friday and everyone seemed really nice and like they had a good system going, so I guess it all depends on the location. I'm still waiting for them to send me all the paperwork for the background check, etc. I wouldn't even start working for about 9 weeks. They do classroom training, then hands on, the they put you with a preceptor for a couple weeks. My schedule would be M/W/F. The schedule is crazy! You have to be there at 4:30am and usually don't get out until 5-8:30pm. The girl I shadowed with says she works about 16 hours a day. I don't really mind. I feel like when I go into nursing I'll be seasoned to the crazy schedules and be like, "pssssh this 12 hour shift is nothing!" Lol ya know? The FA I spoke with for my location also said you can literally call and see which location needs help if you want overtime...she said this one employee of hers works 6 days a week! Lol yeah, no thanks! But they're totally for you going to school (probably because they want you to fill an RN position there). They told me once I start they will transition me to PRN or once a week shifts.

I didn't mind the hours, apparently you can wrack up enough overtime for it to make up for the pay. I would be more concerned about how to work it out with school. But 3 days a week is very nurselike! Let me know! There's a DaVita like 5 min from my house that's hiring and Everytime I get fed up at my job, I always go to the DaVita website and contemplate appllyinh lol.

What type of experience do you need to work at Davita? You guys have me interested lol

Yeah you should at least apply and go through the interview process because just that takes about 3 weeks. You have to go through a phone interview and then a panel interview with like 4 managers, then shadowing to see if you'd be a good fit with the team. As far as school, it should work out. Like I said, she said when I start school they would have me working once a week on a day that I would be off of school. They're really flexible! Even the recruiter was nice. Initially I applied for a bunch of DaVita openings, but the call I got for the interview was for a champions location...she looked up my address and was like, "oh man that's like 20 min from you, let me see if there's an available position closer." She literally put me at the DaVita 5 minutes from me. Lol

Oh well that's definitely promising! Well this is going to be a great week for you! Sounds like they care about you already. Keep us posted :D

No experience. They train you to get your license (tech) that is good anywhere. That's one of the upsides. You get paid to take a class that others pay for to get a license that's accepted anywhere. You work at least 12 hour shifts. The pay wasn't all that great and you had to pay for part of your insurance, but it gives you the healthcare experience you need. It's literally one of the few places that offer this. Again, I don't know anyone who's recently worked there to get new info, but if you look at their past reviews (like on Glassdoor) it makes you want to run the other way. But if they're revamping and they are getting new leadership and treating their employees better, then I'll throw my hat in the ring!

Thanks for all the good vibes! Hope everything goes well this week...FOR ALL OF US! I will definitely post about the davita job when I know more:)

You guys, I really hope tomorrow is the day. Literally I'm so nervous I may have a heart attack. Lol

I have gotten nothing done all day because I just keep looking at my email and this board to see if anyone has gotten anything! lol.

I got an email from lonestar about drugs or something and my heart jumped into my throat!! haha

Haha, same here! I keep looking at past forums & I'm scaring myself. Last spring someone had the same exact score as me and was considered an alternate. Not too sure if she ended up getting accepted though... Just freaking myself out lol. Hopefully we find out tomorrow!!
