Spring Break Check Up

  • Experts

Today was the first day of our Spring break and since there aren't any beach activities around here, the wife and I decided to get a "Whole Body Check." We are in one of the poorest countries on the face of the earth but there is a modern hospital here, mostly staffed by Indian doctors and nurses.

Our 7 hr pleasant experience consisted of just about every type of lab work you can think of as well as Pulm. Function Test, ECG, ECHO, Tread Mill Stress, CXR, Full ABD ultrasound, boob check for the wife, diet counseling, hearing test, consultations with Internal Medicine, General Surgery, OBGYN (not me), ENT, Cardiology, Ophthalomology, Endocrinology, and Dental.

Plus there was a brown bag breakfast and lunch and our very own assistant to take us from place to place.

I now have my own physician here, an Indian lady trained and board certified in Internal Medicine in the USA.

You'll be happy to hear I'm still tough as dead dirt, LOL!

So what do you guys think this cost me in cash?

OK... I'll bite: $75 USD?

I'm going to go with $20.

My parents live in Bangkok and my father just had the full body work up, too. Cost to him? $35. But since you're in Bangaldesh, I figure you probably got it a little cheaper than it would be in Thailand. How close am I?

BKK is closer to about $100 for all of that, if you go to one of the hospitals where English is spoken, and they include the Echo, etc.

If you speak Thai, then you can go to one of the smaller facilities or clinics. But even at $100, it is truly a bargain.

Soem of the hospitals now offer a Health Visit, just like you would do a tour on one of the islands, it costs about $500 for the three days and two nights and you get every test done on the Mayo Clinic Executive Check-up that usually costs more than $5000 and doesn't include the room with a chef cooking your meals as well for you.

Very big difference between the Thai hosptials that cater to foreigners and the US hospitals.

Apollo hospitals are a little on the expensive side for Asia but the entire package was only $138 each. I'm happy with that!
