Spring 2016 ASU TCPN

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi! I just wanted to make another post since it is getting closer to the application deadline. This way we can see what other people had on the TEAS or what GPAS are looking like. I haven't taken my TEAS yet but I have a 3.72 GPA so I need an 87 on my TEAS to have an advancement score of 1.80, which is pretty good. What are your stats and advancement scores? I hope this post will help calm others nerves and maybe we can all make new friends before we start the program!

Hi, for anyone who had done the asu traditional program what is your advice on working? I'm debating between 1 day a week or none at all. Thanks!

Hi! I'm currently in the program and one day a week is definitely doable. I work 20 hours a week in the traditional program.

I also worked. I think it's definitely doable! Especially just 1 day. Then again, both Egaddy and I have discovered that not working while doing the program would give much more time for studying and focusing on getting great grades. It definitely depends on you and your time management skills :)

any advice on textbooks?

I usually like hard copy but I heard that many people like ebooks for searching for information. Also would you advise to buy the books or rent? Is it better to keep them so you have something to look back at for the NCLEX?

Also how many polos, scrub top and bottoms did you find necessary to have? Do you have to wear them everyday even in class or just on clinical days?

I also saw that all black shoes are required, is it fine if the symbol on the shoe is a different color? For example, nike's symbol is usually white or gray on a black shoe. Is it okay if the sole/bottom of the shoe is white, or just all black?

Thank you very much for answering guys!

I used to love hard copy books but I wouldn't be able to live without the ebooks. They are a lot more convenient and the hard copy books are just too big and too much to carry to school everyday. So I would advise you to buy the ebooks or see if someone is willing to share with you. The books will definitely be helpful for studying for the NCLEX. I know a girl that still uses her books at work and she is already a nurse.

I bought one polo which is definitely enough. We wore it for our preschool, well-elder, Psych and community clinicals (those occur in different semesters). I have two scrub tops which have been enough and I'd say two to three scrub pants would be perfect. You wear the scrubs to LTC, med-surg, labor and Delivery, pediatrics and critical care clinicals. The scrubs are also worn on Lab days.

all black shoes are necessary I would try to just stick to all black including the symbol because they can be picky about the shoes.

are there any packages that come with both the ebook and the hard copy?

Yes there are! They are very expensive but there is. You can also find old edition hard copies on Craigslist and goodwill! I would get the ebooks and then see if you can find older edition hard copies for cheaper.

Sorry for all the questions but 1 more, do you have to buy the books from the book store? They have an ebook package that's 1039, I know I can buy the ebooks cheaper on amazon, but they were telling me that I can't buy the access codes seperate and they only come with the package. I usually do everything through Amazon because it's a thousand times cheaper, but is the book store the only way? Do you know anything about this?

Hi everyone! So I am very nervous that I will not be accepted into the program. I have a 3.83 GPA but got a 74% on the TEAS leaving me with a 1.6988 advancement score. Does anyone think I can still stand a chance? I don't care if I get into the summer or fall, I'll just be happy if I can get either.

Does anyone know how many spots there are for each, and about how many people apply?

So I found out the 1 access code cost 500 dollars separately for the nursing concepts online access, looks like I'm stuck with the $1039 package
