Sponsorship Help

Published

Hi Everyone! I have a cousin in Philippines who really wants to come to California and work as a nurse. He already has his RN there, but needs my advice in the process of getting here to California to work. I read somewhere that he would need an h1b working visa and a facility willing to sponsor him. Am I supposed to be searching everywhere to find a facility to sponsor him right now? Is it true that California is putting a freeze on hiring foreign nurses? I need all the help I can get, thanks everyone! -Scorpio82

It's not California that's putting a freeze on, it's the American government - do a quick search here on "retrogression" and you'll find that the pipeline of RNs from the PI to the US has been effectively staunched for quite some time.

Further, finding a facility, especially in California, willing or able to do an H1B sponsorship is highly unlikely because there are experienced nurses throughout the state who are unable to find employment and many facilities are moving back to a model of part-time, per-diem hiring.

The short answer is that your cousin ought not to plan to move to the US anytime soon.

???Huh? California BON is not accepting foreign applicants, won't give them a license (with SSN)???

My understanding is that it's the USCIS that isn't giving visas to work, nothing to do with CA BON not giving out licenses to foreign grads. (Of course even if they get it, they can't work legally)

Lets be correct here, CA are not accepting applications without a SSN therefore as long as in the US with a valid work or immigrant visa and a SSN the CA BRN will accept application and issue a license as long as all requirements are met and NCLEX is passed
