Hello colleagues!
I hope that you all are doing fine.
I am a nurse from Spain who got her RN licence in the State on NY. I was wondering if any of you could help me a little bit about how foreign nurses have to look for a job in NYC area.
I noticed that having contacts in the hospitals are not enough because the immigration paper work is tremendous.
Does anybody can help me?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE:)

New York is rough even for natives of the state. Experienced or new. Can you move? Many having to do this in saturated areas
Hello :)
Move to another state you mean?

Upstate NY (Albany, Syracuse) is less saturated. Do you have a visa with work rights? There are almost no healthcare facilities in the metro NYC area willing to go through the time & expense of visa sponsorship. There are dozens of US citizen & permanent resident applicants for each job
Are you an experienced nurse in a specialty area? Specialty experience will increase your options and marketability

Yes, or area, if the areas you desire are over saturated. I wish you luck. Try upstate like JustBeachy suggests
Hello,
I have no visa or work permit to stay and work as a nurse. That is what I am trying to do now, to look for a sponsor. But it is really hard, yes.
What I do not understand is why hospitals are willing to recruit nurses from overseas if an agency do it for them (paying more money - visa+agency fees) but they don't want to do it directly with the candidate.
I will try to seek upstate then. If there are more chances.
Thank you so much

The facilities recruiting over seas nurses are not in NYC they are in less than optimal areas of the country difficult to recruit and keep US nurses. Such as parts of southwestern Texas near the Mexican border, North Dakota. Major metropolitan areas such as NYC, Boston, LA, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, are highly populated and have a surplus of nurses seeking employment. ,
If you are here on a tourist visa make certain to follow the rules when seeking work. Tourist visas are not intended to seek work and employment visas.
So to have a better idea, how is the process for an american nurse?
You do an interview and, then, what is next?
Thank you!!:)
You apply online. Your application is screened. If pass screening the application is generally referred to a recruiter who conducts an initial interview. The recruiter may then verify work history while referring to the unit manager. The unit manager interviews, sometimes it's a nurse peer interview. At this point the manager responds to HR requesting an offer be made to the selected applicant. Offers are conditional on references & credentials. Once license, credentials, references and background verified the nurse would be given a start date for orientation
An applicant that requires visa sponsorship might not even make it out of the application screen stage
