Southwestern College ADN Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I’m starting this thread so we can share our application criteria points with each other! I just turned in my application today. I have between 85 and 88 points. I have 3 B’s on my science prerequisites :((, 4.0 gpa for all the general Ed courses. I have fluency in Spanish, an associates degree, CNA, and volunteer experience. I scored an 88 on my TEAS! I hope they can look past my grades in my prerequisite courses and I get in!!! I hope we all get into this cohort! Good luck everyone

No matter how many signs point to I may be getting in... Until I get that official email, it means nothing. I mean something, but does not get rid of the anxiety.

Yup, same for me. Who knows what they will do. I keep hyping myself up when people post stuff but then I get to over thinking like what if that or this.

They should just let everyone in because of this ridiculous wait. Lol

I have another question. Did either of you take any classes at sdsu? I thought I heard that it is possible to take a class or 2 during your second semester at SDSU to work towards your BSN. Is that true?

I’ve taken one class so far. I plan on taking one more in the fall then the spring. The one I’ve taken was mostly online with extra credit for attending in class and it was really manageable. They sometimes offer classes over the summer too depending on interest and the availability of the professor, but you have to be taking 6 units at swc. I would highly recommend cross enrolling if you don’t have a bachelor’s yet.

I spoke to an admin today and she said you guys should find out by the end of the week!

I dont have a bachelors and definitely want to cross enroll. Are there a few courses to pick from or are there Introductory courses that need to be taken in order?

For the SDSU classes? No there’s no prerequisites required.

A BSN requires specific nursing courses, like:

- nursing leadership

- nursing research

- community health nursing

- nursing assessment???

- etc.

These courses are not covered in an ADN education, and so would be part of the RN to BSN coursework or "cross enrollment".

Do you have to be accepted at sdsu to cross enroll?

From SDSUs site.... I also think there is a partnership with point Loma. Hopefully this answers some questions.

Cross Enrollment Program

We recommend the Cross Enrollment program for students interested in the RN to BSN program who meet the minimum admission requirements, including a minimum GPA 3.2.

For more information on the Cross Enrollment program please refer here: https://registrar.sdsu.edu/_resources/pdf/CrossEnrollment.pdf

Contact SDSU Registrar’s Office for details on Cross Enrollment.

NUR 312: Nursing Professionalism (3 units – offered Fall 2016 Semester for Cross Enrollment)

Also, I may be wrong about the courses I mentioned earlier, for the BSN requirements... Apparently nursing supervision / leadership is in the ADN program at southwestern.

Anyhow, I think we all have tons of questions... Orientation, should we be accepted, will be an excellent time to ask!

Good luck to everyone! ?

For those of you receiving phone calls to turn in paperwork, is it from the nursing office's phone number? Do they leave you a voicemail or do they send you an email about it if you don't answer their call?

How does cross enrolling affect/benefit your financial aid?

You’ll usually have 1-2 papers per semester I believe one semester there was about 3-4 but they aren’t terribly hard ? I really hope you all find out soon I can’t imagine what your going through waiting until April was hard enough for me as a alternative.

Also so you don’t have clinical rotations at paradise valley hospital I read someone asked earlier in the discussion.

clinicals are usually

UCSD

Kaiser

Sharp

Alvarado

Scripps

Navy Base

i belive thats it for the hospital rotations day and evening varies in clinical rotations.

I’m graduating next week and my recommendation is to take evening/weekend based off of my experience. You will find it’s not truly evening classes until second year from 5-7pm it’s a great program and if you asked me if I would take evening or day I would choose evening also my sister graduated here too and she switched from day to evening ☺️

Thanks for the info and congrats on graduating next week! ? Were you and/or your sister able to work while attending school during the evening?

What was your schedule like for the second year, in regards to clinical rotations and lecture?
