Southeast Texas Nurse

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey everyone.. Just thought it would be nice to have an area for us to chat in.....Get to know some of our fellow nurse neighbors, complain about work(or lack of it), stress of school, etc.........

Also, I am a new graduate LVN in the Southeast Texas area. Any advise on where to go to work?

Which area of SE TEXAS???

Beaumont..

I had one interview today. I thought I had it, but they called and said they hired someone with experience instead. woohoo..

Anyways, a hospital called and wants a letter of reference from a past employer. Soo now I am going to go tomorrow and see if I can get one..

Wish me luck.....

LOL... forgot who you are.. lol...

Hello Tammy

Hey girl, it's so funny, I've read a couple of your posts, and had no idea it was you until I read the one about jobs in SE TX, then after I replied to it I was like..hey, I think I know this person!!

Hey yall! I'm from Nederland, and hopefully I will be in the BSN class for the Spring. I won't find out until the middle of November. I have an interview for a lab assistant job at St. Elizabeth's on Monday. Hopefully I'll get it so I can get some experience.

Well good luck to you.

I got my first job I start tonight. I have to be there at 9:45pm.. Yeah graveyards. lol... Actually I wanted to work it.

Unfortunately its at a LTC, but its like 15min from my house and that is really nice. I live way out in the boondocks.lol...

Its not my ideal job, but the pay is really good. I figured I will work there for awhile get some experience, and then look somewhere's else(unless I actually like it.. The ADON seems nice so you never know)...

hey nederland..small world huh?? good luck to you, i hope you get in to the program and get that job at st. e, it really helps to work in a hospital environment while you go to school, if you can handle it. we need to get more nursing students from our area posting on allnurses.com, it would be nice to share stories, frustrations, advice, words of wisdom, etc. anyway, take care, and.......................

go indians!!!!!!! sorry, had to thrown that in there. lol

:monkeydance: ... Ok, I'm not real happy with my job. Does anyone have problems with there job changing there schedule from day to day? Is this the norm. I mean don't get me wrong, the pay is good, but I don't like not knowing when I am going to work....This is a nursing home by the way...if that makes a difference...

I had 3 different places call me today... One at a jail, one at another nursing home, and one at a hospital... jail(part-time, nursing home(not sure if I want to do that again. Not sure what to do, any recommendations.. Would love to hear them...:nurse:

Hey girl, sorry to hear you're not liking your job. I would talk to them first and let them know your concerns. I know hospitals have a more stable schedule, you either work 8 hour shifts or 12, most of them are going to 12's. I personally like the 12's, and most nurses I work with do to, they say it's because with the 8's they were usually staying late to chart and the 12's give them more time to catch up on charting and paperwork. I don't know about the jail, my hubby's aunt is an LVN and works for the state prison system and is retiring at the end of this month and she's in her mid 50's. She seems to have really liked it, and the benefits are excellent, don't know about pay though. Anyway, good luck and I'll see ya Thursday!!

Specializes in corrections.

If you can get a job with UTMB at one of the prisons the pay is better than nursing homes and hospitals. I've been working in the prison system for a year and I really like it. You just have to get use t ohe jerks locked up especially if you are female they can get pretty disgusting. I am a male and they can still be disgusting but the officers will show you how to take care of the jerks. I know that the three prisons in beaumont are hiring right now. So give it a try and god luck in our endeavors.

Hey I applied at the Federal Prison. Havent heard anything from them. Which prisons are hiring?

I'm attempting to tough it out here at the nursing home I'm at. Only because it pays really well.
