Did you start? I am going to apply to the MSN program this month. When do their classes start and would you do it again? In other words, can you tekll if yomade the right decision? How are courses set up per semester? I will want to transfer in some MSN courses. Wondering how many they will allow. Glad to find another in South's MSN program. Barinbass.

I was not in the NP program at South, but I did take several courses online there 1-2 years ago; at that time I was working on a BS in Health Science as I thought I would need a BS or BA for entry into grad school. Turns out I did not need the degree for the program I entered, so I stopped taking classes once I was admitted to Vanderbilt.
I thought the courses I took there were fairly challenging, although I will say I am a person who really enjoys online courses. I understand it's not for everyone and some people just can't follow a course that is not "seated." It was a bit spendy, but that comes from someone who was taking courses at the same time at a local community college which was VERY inexpensive so that was my perspective at the time. Now I'm a Vandy...South doesn't seem quite so out-of-line!
Just like anywhere else, some courses were great with wonderful instructors and others...not so much. But you'll have that everywhere. The writing assignments were a BIG part of the courses I took (except the math classes, of course) and that was good practice for the MSN program I'm in now. Lots of APA practice!
Best of luck!!
Thanks. I would like to transfer in as many credits from my present MSN program as possible. South is revamping their ANP curriculum and can't say how much they can give me for sure. When you say the courses were chappenging, what did you mean? How long do they give you for test taking etc. I did my BSN completely online and did very well. South was to start taking apps in April, but now it is June with start date of classes this summer semester. I want to be able to transfer in as much as possible Any ideas of other programs. Ball State said they have heard of transferring in as much as 18 hours, but they have a waiting list until Fall 2011. Barinbass
Not sure how credit transfer goes for the MSN program; my understanding is that most NP programs will not allow that...basically you have to finish at the same place you start.
BUT...when I started at South I refused to sign up for the classes and commit to anything until I negotiated which credits they would transfer for me. That was undergrad so your mileage may vary, as they say. I had to go way back to obtain catalog descriptions of some courses I'd taken many years ago and write letters of appeal to get the credits, but it eventually worked.
Actually, the schools I have contacted do allow transfer credit from another accredited Master's program provide the content is the same or similar enough. It varys by the school which prompted my question. Many are 9 hours, some are 12 and one is up to 18 if the SON petitions the Grad school to allow them. Duke allows only 6 hours, but I sorta expected that. One even will allow them if the course is 70%-80% similar to theirs. Also, South's website says it will allow up to 60% Undergrad. It doesn't mention Grad credits. Hope someone out here has this info. I will remember that about negotiating before anything is finalized. Who were you negotiating with? Which Dept? Did they give you what you asked? Thanks. Barinbass
