Hello everyone,

I'm new to this. I just needed to vent to anyone. I just took my boards last Thursday. I was fine up until I started taking to my other classmates whohad just taken them. They all got 85 questions that were similar & I got a completely different set @ 115. I knew i questioned myself on a few of the questions, but I now I jsut feel worse. I feel like I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown! I work for a well known HMo here in CA & literally, everyone here can't wait for me to pass. What am I going to do if I do't pass?!? I do't want to have to take this test again. It jsut doesn't make any sense to me. I did well the whole time I was in school, graduated w/ honors, & now this. I know no one wants to say it. But, I know they're thinking the same thing...that I probably didn't do so well d/t the number of questions I received. I spoke to someone who writes for the boards & she told me that more than likely some of the questions I had no idea how to answer were practice questions that don't count against my score. I don't know what to think!!! I'm so stressed! I quit smoking a yar ago & this has got my nerves so bad that I've started up again!!! HELP!!! :crying2:

Now, take this from someone who's been through this...

Take a deep breath, try to be calm...

an idea to attempt to check on the grades is to check on your states nursing board/Professions offices website (basically, all nurses and licenced personell are catalogued, and its relatively easy to find...)

what state are you in, maybe I can help you...

Next, sometimes people get different questions for different reasons... see-- if you get the minimum number, you either did really good, or really bad... (the computer has a weighted right vs wrong amount... you hit the ratio one way or the other, and the test just stops... imagine that the test is a rock balanced right in the middle of a teeter-totter... each question will nudge the rock one way (right answer)or the other(wrong answer).... when the teeter-totter falls to one side or the other,[either passing or failing] the test stops.)

sometimes it takes more questions to get to that point where the test will stop...which happens sometimes..

Please feel free to get back to me

Good luck to you. Good advice from Cashew above. :)

I eally appreciate your advice CashewLPN. That's the first thing I did until I found out that California is the only stat that does not provide access to results on-line or by telephone. We are notified solely by mail within 4-6 weeks! It's so odd to me that every other state is able to access their results so much sooner if not the day of, yet Cali is the biggest, yet slowest state! Anyway....all I can do is wait. I hate this waiting game! I feel so emotionally drained because I'm nervous 24 hours/day. There's just so much pessure for me here at work to pass. it really is taking a toll on my...thinking about the consequences if I fail...

Not to take the focus off of your nerves but I am taking my test tomorrow and I am nervous as heck. I have to say STOP THE SMOKING. A smoking nurse, lol. Here is Delaware we have to wait 3-4 weeks also but I've contacted the board who is really nice and she told me if I take my test tomorrow she would be able to tell me if I passed or not by the end of the week. YIKES wish me luck and I will do the same for you.

I also agree with Cashews comment as well. I took my boards Tuesday and I was feeling the same way. I was very stressed. Until I thought to myself, I did the best I could do and thats what matters the most.Me stressing over my results isnt going to make the test score change. So Im taking it easy doing and enjoying things I would have done if I werent studyng for the nclex! Hope that helps. I have also question why california isnt up to par on the quick results.

hey its going to be ok. there was something like 25 pilot questions for the california boards, most of which are pharm & multiple multiples. they add these pilot questions in to see the results and if alot of people ansewer correctly then they will add some of them to the new boards that are coming out in 2008. so take a deep breath and think of the questions you were unsure of as a pilot question that did not count against you!
