Hello! I am a high school junior with a strong interest in nursing. I joined this site a month ago to learn a little more. But now im asking for a little help.. For my senior project we must choose a social issue in a community. After having trouble finding a topic, i was told to choose something i am passionate about and i automatically thought of nursing. So, would anyone have any advice as to what i could choose? I was thinking maybe a hospital based problem. I was looking into volunteering at my local hospital anyway and for the project we must do community service that is associated with our topic. Even if you do not see it as a "social" issue, please share it with me. I am pressed for time because i have taken a long time to decide. Anything would help me. Issues in nursing that affect a community? Issues in healthcare that affect a community? I apologize if this is not very acceptable to post but you all seem very helpful to others that are new to the site and i do not personally know anyone involved in nursing. Thank you in advance.
When I think social I think cultural problems. And from there I can think of a tonIssues with women (esp in ob/l&d) having a male nurse
Issues with men and genital issues having a female nurse
Issues with culturally modest women (ie middle east) with men care providers
Issues with alcoholic/drug abusers in Healthcare setting and how it affects nurses views of the population (that's a big one on this forum)
Coping with Co workers that have different ethics/values than your own
Dealing with patients that are on the opposing spectrum of your own ethics/values/beliefs
all of these are issues each nurse faces extremely frequently so....yeah.
I could go on for days but..there ya go. Good luck!
I had not thought of any of these.. thank you so much!
I think a great topic would be on the people that donate time in hospitals. What they do for the community. Most of them sit at the entrances assisting people on where to go, while others wheel patients out to cars while a person gets the car. Some of these people are called Candy Striper's due due their outfits. Many are young women wondering what a job in the future would be in the hospital while many seniors choose to donate to get out of the house to socialize. Just a thought. Good luck on your paper.
