SO,, This Letter of Reccomendation letter...

If you are trying to go active duty, do you NEED letters of recommendation from your boss? I know I asked this in my other post but I still of questions. I really did not want my boss to know that 2 months after she hired me I am trying to go active duty and not ever coming back. How have you been received?

So you want to not get a LOR from your current boss for fear of alienating yourself and would rather just leave the job in the middle of the night a few months from now? Lol. I'd just include that in your personal statement....

Weren't you the one undecided on when you were going to enter because of your MSN program... have you decided on that yet? What is your real time line... it's pretty much impossible to give advice on partial scenarios w/o a quick analysis provided for feedback.

Include your overall list of unknowns, priorities, and questions... would be happy to respond to that.

No, I am not the one getting my MSN. I am ADN going for BSN and will complete sometime between Oct 09 and March 10.

I don't want to leave my job in the middle of the night. I will want to give notice. It's just that I don't want to have to get a letter and have her thinking for several months that I am leaving. There is two other girls ( not military) I work with who have told the boss that they will leave "someday" one is waiting for her house to sell, the other is waiting for the boyfriend to be more serious. Other reasons other than military but instantly boss knows you are not in for the long haul. I am also a military spouse and believe me when you interview and they know you are military the first question is always "how long are you here for?" before they hire you.

Anyways, I just did not know that you had to get a letter of recommendation. I want to start my paperwork as soon as possible but I don't want to stir the pot yet.

Getting your LORs now does not help expedite the process as all paperwork is submitted to the board at one time. If you know you want to send your packet to the board within 1 year from this date.. you can start your physical and then as advice in other thread... start a CV, start filling in your security packet, letter of personal motivation and keep those in mind whom you want to request an LOR from - that way you don't have to stir the pot at this time.. by the time you actually ask for the LOR it could be just under year from now and you could have a good relationship with boss and he/she might be more understanding at that time.

I would definitely do those things prior to LOR requesting as many people are surprised to find out they are disqualified during their physical whom otherwise thought they were sure candidates.

I believe I had to submit either 3 or 5 LORs for Active duty. At the same time, I had to submit another 3 for CRNA USAGPAN school (plus one from a Phase II medical center director of Anesthesia).

Ask your recruiter about LORs,........ because now days you give your recruiter the "list of people/addresses" for LORs. Next, THEY write them, requesting an LOR & providing the "writer" with the recruiting station address/timeframe. So, the letters don't go through you at all.

It can take a few months to get all the LORs back......be sure to figure that in. I think the LORs are only "valid" for a period of time.

Reg says they should be within year.. I believe you might have to submit one from your current employer if you are working as an RN.

With any luck I will be able to get a hold of my recruiter tomorrow and get some more concrete answers and probably some more questions too.
