So stinkin frustrated!!!

I am a new grad LPN, never worked in healthcare before.......the best part is I am in debt, have a family and I am relocating to FL because there are no LPN jobs here in Indiana. I only have a FL license. I called myself doing some research about FL and at that point, they had many jobs for new grads. NO ONE said a word about needing experience.

So now that I am officially licensed, I am looking for a job and everyone wants people with experience. WHY??? How do experienced nurses get experience?? Can someone tell me this?? Especially if no one will give them a chance. I am so frustrated....I cannot even find a job!! What am I going to do?? I recently started back taking classes for my RN online and I am going to push myself through very quick so I can at least be an RN not able to find a job. As an LPN, the one place that did call me is only going to pay me $12.50 an hour.......are you kidding me??? $12.50....how am I supposed to care for a family on that.....let alone start to pay off these student loans. OMG I am so frustrated. I see hosptial after hostpital with opening after opening for RN's....why can't they consider LPN's for these positions?? LPN's take the NCLEX just like RN's......what is the difference in 3 extra semesters in school.

I just needed a place to vent, my family does not understand why I cannot find a job...they think it is easy...what am I going to do though...kids don't feed themselves!:angryfire

I feel your pain, have you tried pricate practices? It's a start... Where in FL are you?? If in Central FL, call the waterman hospital in Tavares... they might have something... GOOD LUCK!

just saw this on the southlake hospital website in clermont:

Hospitals in my area do not hire LPNs at all either. Only Nursing Homes are welcoming for LPNs and the pay is decent. Most nursing homes in the area pay at least $20 and have good benefits. I will be taking the NCLEX-PN soon and hopefully I won't have a hard time finding a new job that hires new grads. I already have an LPN position lined up for me at my current work, but the pay is only $19. If I can't find any other openings, then I may remain at my current workplace. Good luck to you!

Hi floridanursemom239: A lot of newly RN grads here also are finding it difficult landing a job. Actually, I thought it is easier for newly LVN/LPN grads to get a job compared to newly RN grads. I had one experience at a convalescent home, I submitted an application and gave my resume, then later finding out that they only had one position for LVN-Nights and not for RN. I felt frustrated deep inside but all I can do is just smile. Just hang in there floridanursemom239, we all feel your pain.

I have been asked and told many times that nursing is a recession proof job and there is always an opening. That is NOT TRUE unless if you have experience or maybe if you know someone who can hook u up for a job. Where are we going to get the experience if no one wants to hire us??? I hate it when other people say, "Oh you're nursing, you will get a job easily, they always hire nurses." Not anymore. I tried to be persistent but I am kind of tired getting my foot from one hospital to another just to find out they don't want newly grad nurses. Reality is sometimes painful.

Oh I know, I think that day I was just venting and stressed out. The truth is I may have to stay in Indiana. I don't really want to because I have paid so much money just to move. At the time I decided to move, things were so much better. I will see what the next 3 weeks holds for me and my family. Either I am going to find a job or I am going to have to stay here! I have to consider both options, even though I don't want to. Sucks too, I see that I am going to have to push forward with getting my RN full speed ahead. Thanks for the info everyone...I will keep you updated on my progress. I am trying to relocate to the Ft Myers area if anyone knows of any place looking for an LPN. I am dedicated to nursing and taking care if patients!!!
