So I applied for Faulkner states RN program last semester and got rejected. They took students who had 185 points and higher and I had 179. So I was 6 points short. Well I applied again this semester and I checked my mailbox yesterday and my lettr was in. But I instantly knew I didn't get because it was a small letter. My best friend got in and she was telling me all about it and how it was thick. Well I figured I got in because me nd her have the same amount of points. Well this semester they took students with 160 or higher, and once again I had 179. But I didn't get in!!!!! Why?! Because I was not eligible to take math 100 my first semester of nursing school. No one at that school told me that was a requirement. So here am once again, lost and doubting myself if i will ever be able to call myself a nursing student. :/

Don't give up! If math is an easy subject for you, see if the school will accept CLEP tests and complete your math requirement that way. It is cheaper and quicker than taking math during a regular semester.
I'm not good in math. Ididnt even graduate high school. Lol. But I'm excellent at science and had an A in Ap1 an A in micro and a B in AP2. I had to take a compass test to figure out what math class to be put in and I scored to low to take mth 100. So I need 098 before 100. Which is a years worth putting me behind. And there aren't many schools in south Alabama I can apply too. It just so hard to keep getting rejected, especially when my best friend got in and is leaving me behind.

Can you talk to a department head and see if they will let you advance? If you tell them how determined you are sometimes they will waive pre-reqs. GL!

On the compass test, what kind of math are they testing you for? Would you be able to study and test in Math again. When I first tried to get into the CC in my area years ago I tested too low in Math as well and would have had to go the same route as you. What I did was I got a book and studied it for about a month then tested again. I scored high enough that I didnt need any remedial classes anymore. Here is the book I used.
Davis's Basic Math Review for Nurses: with Step-by-Step Solutions

I am terrible at math as well, and have always feared it. But I was determined to get into a nursing program, so I got a book, and just did the problems over and over. Its really just memorization in the end. Try that and just test in the math portion again.
I think if u take the CLEP test and pass, you won't have to take the remedial math class. If you have the discipline, I would just dedicate a few months to prepare and take the test. There are a lot of online resources available like http://www.khanacademy.org to help you with math. A family member of mine is basically completing her freshman year of school this way, because her school will accept like 40+ credit hours of CLEP credit. She spends about 8 weeks studying really hard then takes the test(s), usually 1-2 subjects at a time. It costs like $90+ to take the test...much cheaper than paying tuition. Don't give up...if you want to be a nurse bad enough, you should be willing to do what it takes. Good luck!!

Go talk to the nursing advisors. See if there is time for you to take the compass again before school starts. If there is then get to studying math. Go to the library and check out a math review book. Good luck!!

YES!!!!! Khan is excellent if you are a visual learner like myself and it helps to actually see someone do it. His videos are so easy and he explains everything so simply, its one of the best websites on the net, and its FREE. He has a video for almost every math subject. Love Kahn! Whatever subject you are stuck on, go look for a Khan video on it.
Thanks for all the responses guys!:) I talked to my director of nursing this morning and they do accept clep credits! I never even knew what that was until y'all. Lol. So as long as I pass my clep or I can also retake my compass test, and score high enough to take mth100 then I can start in the spring!! Thanks a lot for all the encouraging posts! Now I just gotta find a tutor!
Nvm. She just called back and since I dropped my 098 class they won't let me do it. So back to square one:((((((
If you cant take the compass you can STILL Clep out. Get the book, study, and then go to here
http://www.petersons.com/college-search/clep-practice-test.aspx
After you study for a while, purchase a set of practice CLEP tests. They time you, just like the real clep tests and after give you a score. Then you can go back and see what you got wrong, and they give you the rationales for why its wrong. They cost 20.00 for a set of 3 tests. I clepped out of Intro to Psych and Intro to Sociology using these and passed both tests the first time. Dont get discouraged. Change your plan, its doable.
