So, has hiring picked up for everyone else??

Published

Has everyone gotten a job but me? I'm not seeing nearly as many 'No thank you, New Grads' posts as I used to. For the record, I'm still jobless. Applications submitted: probably 120. Interviews: 0. Fun, fun.

Has it picked up everywhere but New England? Do I just live in a sucky area and everyone else finally got jobs? I hope so. That would be nice for everyone else. Somehow, I doubt it though....

And really, I'm not looking for 'have you tried this?' advice. Yes. I have tried it. I have 2 bachelor's degrees, a great GPA, great recommendations, I done interviewing workshops (though I can't get an interview), had my resume tweaked and re-tweaked over and over again, and have applied to LTC's. On Jupiter. Where no one else in the solar system wants to work. I'm just venting, I suppose, and looking for other unfortunate souls stuck in the same position I am in. I know eventually something's got to give.....I just don't have much to do with myself until it does. I can't even volunteer somewhere because we can't afford daycare for our 2 year old unless I am working. Ugh....this sucks. I said that already though, didn't I?

No, you are most definitely not alone. I'm coming up on one year since graduation this month and I have not been able to find FT or PT job. I do have a per diem job, but I'm still trying to find something more stable and hopefully in acute care. It really is crazy. I was wondering if it was New England too, because other areas/states seem to be having less issues with job availability for recent grads. I even considered moving!

This all makes me sooo nervous that everyone's having a hard time finding work. I start my nursing program this June!

Just curious, do most of you have an BSN or Associates?

tainted1972, i know that can be the case for you but that's not true in general.

i got all of my 6 interviews through applying on-line.

they are all acute-care hospitals.

i printed my cover letter and resumes then handed them out to long term care facilities before that. haven't heard a thing from them.

almost all institutions strictly process applications on line nowadays except a few that don't have the adequate system.

i would say from my experience, keep applying on-line and find out nurse recruiters' fax numbers and fax them as well.

i faxed and received the call the next day saying they don't have current position but will put me on the waiting list.

they also sent me the whole application packet including references.

so, do everything i guess.

on-line, fax, job fairs, contact them directly... etc.

i wish well for all of you.

I'm in Seattle, graduated in 2009 and I couldn't find anything except homecare. Apparently, most of the other nurses I've met at my agency are also 09 grads. We all have the same story. No jobs, no interviews, no leads. And every post (even for non-hospital jobs) says "1-2 yr acute care experience required." I'm about to give up. I guess at least I have work? Though I don't have full-time work.

I'm getting so scared readind all this too! I start in June as well! I sure hope New Mexico doesn't have the same issue with nursing jobs.....

I'm just curious where everyone is in New England. I am nervous now as I am moving to NH in a week. I was hoping to get a part time job somewhere but now I'm wondering if I'll be able to do that.

I think it's fair to say that those who are starting nursing school now may find it much more positive by the time you graduate... they were doing 15k sign on bonuses when I started... now the only one left doing bonuses is 3k.

That said, get a job as a CNA / PCA / whatever a nurse aid is in your part of the country. That seems to be the easiest way in upon graduation.

Good luck.

I graduated last August and fill out applications on a weekly basis...I have had 1 job interview since graduating! Hope that it makes you feel better to know that there are others out here struggling to get interviews.
