So Frustrated with school and the admissions. Please help!!

Published

Hi everyone, I have to vent. I been studying my butt off for a couple of years now and I dropped chem twice, because I was going to get a C in it. Well come to find out at my school if you retake a course twice they take the highest grade, well since I dropped twice out of chem, no matter what the grade is the third time, they are not even going to count it, and it can be used against me while applying. I have a 3.87 gpa, and I only have 1 B. and the rest are A's. It is frustrating to me. I just do not know where to go anymore.

So now I am looking at my options. Originally I was going to go to the community college where I am attending at now and just get my adn/RN then go to UTA here in Arlington to get my BSN.

Well now I feel I might as well just take the prereqs for BSN and just wait another year. There are other colleges around here that offer nursing but they make the admissions process so complicated and do not accept half of the courses that the university will take from the cc that I am at now. Please I need some advice. Should I just take my prereqs towards BSN and give the ADN program a shot and if they reject me, just keep shooting for the BSN at the university?

I just feel everytime I make 2 steps forward its three steps back. Thanks a bunch.

Are you applying to Tarrant County? If so they are frustrating sometimes!

YES!!! How did you know??

Which school have you applied to??

You said something about going to UTA to get your BSN so I just assumed! hah :) I am currently already in the nursing program at TCC. I just finished my first semester. I just remember when I was starting to apply, they would tell me one thing one day then another! Just keep with it you will be fine! Who are you going to take for A&P2 and micro? I had ***** at the Southeast for A&P2. I would highly recommend him!

I am taking **********. It takes a special person to understand him, but we get along well. Me and this other girl were among his favorites in his last class so I would like to keep it that way :). I heard ***** was really good. Right now I am taking a math class, cant remember the guys name and I am also taking Psych Lifespan and Development..... ********.

For my Chem I took ********, that explains alot why I dropped twice, lol. All these professors are at the NE campus. ******** does make AP challenging, but not impossible.

As far as getting accepted, I have been told that because that one little thing with chem.... I should not worry too much about it because I have a good gpa, and letters of recommendations, and yada yada, but still. I do not want to struggle trying to get into the school. Actually TCC nursing is among the best around the DFW area, unless you count UNT's nursing program.

Sorry it wont let me reply to your message because I do not have a lot of post on here lol. Yeah I wouldn't worry about it you will be fine. I know some people that got accepted that don't have the PE credit or something like psych.

Regardless, just apply and still take classes towards your BSN to get it over with and out of the way. And if you don't get in at TCC you are one step closer to your BSN. That is pretty much what I did. I applied the first time to TCC and did not get in because I didn't have AP2 done and the second time I applied to TCC and Weatherford and got into both! Thank goodness I didn't have to go to Weatherford cause that would have sucked driving there.

Just make sure you have all your sciences done though! I didn't apply to El Centro because they had some random class that you had to have done BEFORE you applied and it would have just taken me longer to get in their program than TCC or Weatherford. I had ******** for chemistry at Southeast and I thought he was pretty easy! Although when I signed up it didn't have his name on Webadvisor just "faculty".

One last thing...when you do apply get the TEAS book they have at the South campus and study it before you take that test and make a good percentage. There is no pass or fail but I would suggest making a 80% or above.

Thanks I appreciate it. I added you as a contact/friend. I wanted to ask you, are you able to still work full time, part time, or not at all while being in tcc's nursing program? Just curious for future job planning. I am going to apply next semester after I get micro and chem out of the way.

I currently do not work. I am very thankful my parents are helping me out. I am looking for a job right now at a hospital as a PCT (patient care tech). A lot of the job postings for PCT's you have to have certification OR first semester of nursing school done. They are really stressing to us to get out there and get a job as a PCT to gain experience because new grads are having trouble finding jobs.

I know plenty of people that do work. This one girl that was in my clinical group in the spring worked at Cooks Children's Hospital during the weekend Friday-Sunday adding up to like 32-36 hrs. She was a single mom with a 2 year old son.

Others worked around 20-25 hours. Soon I'll be in that boat I need to get a job! It's all about "time management." They stressed that a lot (haha) but very do able.

Thanks I appreciate that. I had to run get something to eat. I dont even know how to get cert for pct or i would do that now. Ill check it out, I am working in a business/corporate environment, seriously it sucks. I dont like being stuck at a desk for 8 hours not being able to carry conversations longer than 1 minute. I am really looking forward to becoming a nurse. I heard the market is a bit tight around here for nurses, but I am good graces with my pcp so maybe when i graduate he might hire me. Who knows, thats a long ways away. I wish you the very very best on your journey.

Are you going to go to UTA eventually. BTW can your receive messages, just not reply to them or cannot reply to them at all? Let me know, thanks.

Don't worry about becoming certified for a PCT it will be a waste of money and time. Just wait till after your first semester of nursing school. There are some positions for PCT that just require high school diploma just look around.

I'm sure by the time you graduate things will be looking up. Most people that got hired right away had a job at the hospital already. My friend just graduated from UTA in May and moved to Austin and just now got a job 3 days ago. We have the advantage of all the hospitals here in the metroplex for sure. Austin doesn't have near as many hospitals as we do. It's not that bad here it could be worse.

I am already done with all my classes for UTA so as soon as I graduate I probably am going to RN to BSN. I might wait because if I get hired as soon as I graduate most hospitals around here will pay for it after you work for them for 6 months. So waiting six months will be definitely worth it.

I can receive messages but just can't reply. It says something like I have to have like 15 post before I can reply. Pretty stupid. Anyway send me your email address so I can just make sure and I will keep in contact!

I sent you a message with my e-mail, so feel free to email me or chat anytime. Have a great day and thanks for the tips. I appreciate it alot. Do well in school !! :) Good Luck!!

guys can i please remind you of terms of service and not to name instructors. i have removed several names from several posts

no potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.

2. while this site is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.

3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

I don't know, every programm is different and the requirements change constantley. Don't give up - there is a lot of people out there that have been trying for years to get into the nursing program and are not getting in. I was one of them, it took me 4 years of trying and I have 4.0 gpa but I was not passing the entrance exam untill I finally did and got acceptance letter into two - but I have been at the end of the rope.Just keep on pushing forward, regroup and reorganize - you'll get there.;)
