hello, well to start off im 22 years old, feeling as if its too late to do anything especially becoming a nurse. i see most of my friends or other people that are my age already either almost done with pre reqs or already in nursing school. i went to a community college for about 3 or two years and just messed around i was on academic probation for 3 or two times i think. now i go to a different community college different district to try and start fresh. but i feel that its too late to start pre reqs for nursing. at the same time i have so many family problems. well not many just the fact that we are poor and i have a full time job and help out a lot. and my mom doesnt work so its just my dad and i was thinking of getting my cdl license like him and work for like coca cola and then go back to school and finish. but i feel as if its too late for me. i was thinking instead of getting my cdl license to get into a lvn program and then into a lvn to rn program. theres so many ideas but i just hate seeing my family like this and want to help out and feel comfortable living in a better place and finishing school. but at the same time i think about it when i get cdl license i need experience and thats more time to spend on it and as time goes by ill get older and older. so should i get into a lvn program but i work full time what should i do i need help please anyone that i can talk to here to help me clear my mind about all this and explain what would be a good choice for me. im determined to do good in school now study homework to get good grades. but im still confused on which to do first.

If I were in your position I would focus on "me." I know it's hard because you want to help your family, but i'm sure they want to see you succeed and reach your own goals. You shouldn't have to settle. You are ONLY 22, that is not old at all. Not at all too late to go to nursing school. I would personally look into all of the nursing schools in the area but an lvn program might be better suited for you right now. It typically is a shorter program and some of them are not competitive at all like the RN programs. They just require a "waitlist." The lpn program i'm going to is a 15 month program and the tuition is a lot cheaper than that community college and universities around here. Then after you graduate just work for a year and enroll in the bridge program to get your RN. But, this is just my 2 cents. Do what you feel is right for you. Think of your family, but also think of yourself. Where do you see yourself in 2-5 years? A driver? A nurse? Only you will know the answer. :)
yeah you're right i want to see my self as a nurse years from now not a driver. My family always tells me to pursue anything i want they dont ask for anything and i feel like maybe thats why i want to help out but im sure ill be able to help out when im a nurse as well. im glad i found this website :) reading all posts motivates me i know other people have it harder than me.
thanks bro =)

in the first place, 22 is absolutely positively not old or anything close to it! you have your whole life ahead of you
even though it may not seem like it now.
most lpn programs are 15-18 months long and once you have your pre-reqs taken, an adn program is 24 months long.
why not shoot for that instead?
my college professor husband suggests that you talk with a nearby adn program at a local college and find out what
pre-reqs they require, since they can differ from school to school. he also suggested that you talk to the admissions
office and the financial aid office to find out exactly what help might be available when the time comes. it will also
help keep you focused this time around.
find yourself a study group and/or a study buddy because it'll keep you on track and you'll help each other learn.
good luck and stay in touch! welcome to allnurses!!
