So close yet so far away..

This is my first post on this website, and it's because I've been searching for answers/words of wisdom.

Basically, I'm nearly done with my nursing pre-reqs. All I have to do is finish this microbiology course (with a B or better) and I'm eligible to apply to the RN program. However I currently have a 70% in the class which is clearly NO GOOD. I spoke with my professor today who said I either try my very hardest and get the grade I'm going to get OR I purposely miss the final exam to fail the class so I can take it again.

I was nearly in tears. But, my courseload has been particularly high this semester (micro, stats, CNA) and my fiance started a new job (we only have one car) plus we have a 3 year old daughter. So, I'm the most tired I've ever been (I know, I might as well get used to it right?). It just doesn't seem realistic to think that I can bring my grade all the way up to where it needs to be.

On the plus-side, I did get accepted to the 2014-2015 LVN program. It's progress, but I feel like its bittersweet. I've been going to school since 2009, and I was hoping that by now I would be able to apply to the RN program but it just doesn't seem like it's going to happen.

Would going into the LVN program make it harder for me to move up to RN? And, does anyone who's in socal know the new requirements for repeated courses? I know at CSUF, they don't accept repeated courses at all anymore. Can I retake micro at a different cc even if I get a C this semester?

I know there's a 30 unit option for LVN to go into the RN program and the retake policy is only one retake in science prereq's

I'm in the CSU system and I don't believe that is the everywhere in regards to the retake policy. An instructor of mine at the CC level mentioned that Ws now count as a retake. She said you now have a 3 time max attempt at classes, including anytime you drop with a W. I'm new to this particular CC, so from what she said it sounds like they still have a 3 time rule. The BSN program I want to apply to specifically says that they will only count your newest grade (as opposed to averaging the two) in calculating your GPA, even if your past colleges did it differently. So maybe check with the school you want to get accepted at and see what their policy is? That way you could try again at a different CC and use that as your newest grade?

Good luck! And don't give up! You are SO close! I'm a wife and mom and doing my pre-reqs and I know how you feel! LVN vs. RN... my thoughts is that yes you get instant gratification in doing actual nurse coursework in the LVN program NOW, but in the long run it will take more time to finish your RN using all the LVN->RN->BSN ladders and such. But... I suppose you could save time because the waitlists in between aren't as long. Getting into an RN program as an LVN is much easier. Weigh your options, do what is best for you!

I would do the Lvn program and possibly lvn-rn bridge or do the lvn and still apply to the rn program. As far as the micro class goes I say just take the C

I know how you feel. I have three classes and the TEAS test to take. It all seems so far away but your day will come when you become a nurse. Just picture it in your head that's what I do
