I had my 2nd day of orientation today at my new job (LTC).
My poor face! It had a work out today:
Big happy smile for residents...
Confident smile for coworkers...
Concerned smile (brows knitted during crutial video moments showing residents dignigty & rights)...
Knowledgeable smile for the orienting nurse when appropriate...
Pitiful smile a couple of times during the facility tour...
an "Oh my gosh! What am I getting myself into" smile at the moment I realized how much paper work and plain old charting there is...
an "I'm fooling myself if I think I can do this job good enough" smile...
and then, when I got into my car after the day was done, I had an "I'm going to make this place better, and make a difference to some of these people (residents and coworkers alike) smile... or I'm going to go down smiling!
I hope my smile stays...

A very cute thread. You can make a difference if they (corporate greed) doesn't get to you first. You have a great attitude and even if corporate greed brings you down and makes you leave your facility, you would have put some smile of your residents faces, and that I consider making a difference.

Blue, work on making it better for "these people." If you work on improving the place they'll run you out on a burning rail.
And good luck!
