Need advise. I'm having trouble turning my nights and days around. Translation I work nights. Usually 3 in a row and we work 12 hour shifts. My problem is that I have teenagers and a husband that are day people.(NORMAL PEOPLE) When I get off my third shift, I'm dead. I work in the ER and many times you don't sit down for the whole shift. I want to beable to see my family, but I'm so use to my day sleeping and night working that I can't seem to switch. I can't afford to go to days and don't want to. So whats the answer? Any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I have worked the night shift for years. The day before my first nightshift of the week I take a nap in the afternoon then get up and cook supper and do the 'family' thing. I basically do nothing but work and sleep until my stint is over and on the day following my last night, I take a long bath, put my PJs on and go to bed for a couple of hours. If I stay up straight from work I'm like a bear with a sore head.It works just fine.
Don't go to bed hungry, thirsty, needing the bathroom or full of caffeine. It doesn't work....
Terrified of the night shift since I signed up to go back to floor nursing. However, after having made the move last month I like it. People are nice and I only work X3 12hours a week. I have to admit to becoming a night owl, BUT right now studying for the NCLEX so its not bad cause that seems to be all I do.
I am single without children, my present girlfriend is OK with me getting up at 1:00 or 2:00 and spending the rest of the night up. I do usually go back to bed at around 5 or so. She just seems happy to have me in the house. I feel really lucky having her. Not sure where we are going yet.
My last two jobs I went over 50 hours per week and on call (on salary), BUT now get paid for what I work. There is a concept !
