SJSU Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone!

I was looking for a Fall 2018 thread but couldn't find one so I decided to make one. I thought it would be a great way to get to know each other and to know what this applicant pool would be like this semester. I'm so excited!

Big Five GPA - 4.0

TEAs - 92%

Impaction Score - 7.06

Good luck to everyone and nice to meet you all!

Definitely a lot of solid stats here!

Here are mine:

Big 5 GPA: 3.91

TEAS: 90.7

Impaction Score: 6.93

Good luck to everyone!

HI everyone! I was wondering if someone could help me with the transcript entry on the application? I believe we include every course right (including non-prereq courses)? I got confused when the directions said "Please use Nursing as the subject only if the course is clearly a Nursing course. Do not mark prerequisite courses in other subject areas (such as an Anatomy and Physiology course) with the subject of Nursing or your application will be sent back to you, and this will result in delays in submitting your application." Can someone explain this to me? thanks

Hi,

You will enter the entirety of you transcript. So, each class you've taken at each college you've attended. They will have you choose which of those classes you'd like to use to fulfill each prerequisite in a later section.

As for the subject: I think they're talking about the subject you choose from the drop down menu as you enter each class. You want to list each class as what is generally falls under; A&P would be "anatomy and physiology", not "nursing" even though you're using it as a nursing prereq (hopefully that makes sense). They don't want you to use "nursing" as a subject unless it was an actual nursing class that you took.

This is the part that I am referring to:

So, it should look like this, with each course listed under its appropriate subject (english, statistics, chemistry, microbiology, etc. and not "nursing")

Thank you so much!!!! That was a big help for me :)

I was also wondering if anyone knew if I have to first finish the application before sending in transcripts or if I can send the transcripts in now even though my app isn't done yet? Because I heard nursingcas has to verify it as well right? I'm just worried that the transcripts won't send on time so I want to at least send it in now and know that they have them while I can continue working on the app (like inputting grades and other info)

I think you should be ok if you send it in now. I sent mine in electronically and they received and verified it within a few days. I know that you have to have it sent in by the application deadline, not necessarily received by then. If they get it early, then I assume they'll verify it in your account and just plug it into your application once it's sent. I say this because I had my transcripts verified from an application I sent back in November for another school and they automatically plugged everything into my SJSU application and showed my grades as "verified" when I submitted my SJSU application. So, I think once it's there you're good even if your app isn't complete yet.

They're pretty quick with emailing back, though, so you might shoot them an email just to be sure. :)

I am ready to submit my application but am stuck and confused about one thing...

For the SJSU NursingCas application, this is what I see: kbtafc.png

Am I in the right application to be starting this Fall of this year? This just throws me off because the program name is "Spring 2018"... and I don't know what "Delivery: On Campus" means.

I think they just forgot/didn't update the program application title. The start date is listed as Fall 2018 and the app deadline is also correct, so I assume it is the right application (and hopefully won't cause us any issues...). As for the delivery, that just means that the program is held on campus rather than online or hybrid courses.

Hey J_ssica!

I e-mailed Sue just to make sure and she confirmed that this is the right application.

I just sent my application in! Good luck to us!

Wow all of our stats are great. Mine is only average or maybe below average.

GPA: 3.7

TEAS: 81.3%

Impaction score: 6.4 ( I think)

BTW, can you guys tell me your prepartions before taking the WST Exam? I will be taking the exam on Feb3 and it's been a while since I wrote an essay. :(

To pass the WST, you essentially just need to prove that you can read a prompt and understand it enough to make a clear response/argument. It is nothing more than a high school level paper that is timed.

All you need to know is the basic structure of an essay. Thesis, Intro, 3 Body Paragraphs, and a Conclusion. If all of these are present and your paper is logical and easy to understand, then you are good to go. I scored a 9 out of 12 with little to no preparation other than having to spend the night in San Jose because my test was very early in the morning and I am not from San Jose.

Hi everyone! I'm having some trouble figuring out how to send my TEAS score. I took the TEAS at SJSU and I'm guessing that we go through the ATI testing website to send our scores. I went to the proctored exam --> "share results". When choosing schools, it states that "your results will be sent to San Jose State University free of charge." When I add SJSU as one of the schools to send my results to, my subtotal also includes the $27 for SJSU. Should I assume that my TEAS results taken at SJSU are automatically sent?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

You will need to download a copy of your score report from ATI and upload that into the documents section of your application. There is a button on the top right corner when you're looking at your proctored exam that says "download report". If you took it at SJSU, the school should have record of your results, but still upload the score report into your application.

As for sending in an official copy from ATI, I couldn't find any information on SJSU's nursing website that says they want an official score report sent from ATI. I sent them an email to clarify, as I didn't take my TEAS at SJSU. I'll let everyone know what they say once they get back to me.
