Single working mom attending LPN school

Published

Hey y'all I'm a 25 y/o single mom with two kids and I'm starting lpn school here in jersey I'm so excited but nervous at the same time my support system is small but it better than nothing has anyone been thru LPN school been thru a similar situation and can tell me how they got thru? I mean I've made it this far so I should be able to make it thru but I appreciate any feed back

right here!! I was pregnant with a 4 year old at home.. I worked ft 32 hrs 3-11 straight out of class some days..I had family near who helped .. It's doable but hard .. Nursing school in general is hard

Goodluck! Im in the same boat as you!

You can totally do it. I have a 3 1/2 year old and I'm 5 months pregnant. Babies make it harder when it comes to finding a babysitter at 6 in the morning for clinical but other than that it's not so bad.

I am in pt time program now , it's not so hard but its time consuming. You will not have time for anything really but studying. I have a 7yr son & I feel like I don't have as much time to spend with him as I like. On top of that I work full & part time. Make a schedule & stick to it . You can do it í ½í¸ƒ

if they are of school age- get them in school too! It's doable! I worked full-time and did school full-time completing my Bachelors with a newborn. Now I'm back in the LPN: have a back up sitter for your back up sitter. Keep positive and stay strong

I made it through LVN school as a single mom. (Also 2+ semesters of prereqs and am now in RN school as a single mom) My only child living at home at the time was 8 yrs old or so.

We made it through waking up at 4am for clinicals 3 days per week and studied together often.

I was singularly focused on graduation. I constantly reminded myself that once I graduated, I'd be able to support us financially and comfortably, so the struggle would be worth it! And it was!!

There were many single moms in my class. We all graduated on time.

This is what I'm scared of. I start nursing school in just two days. And the struggle of being a single mom of two and little to no support team really freaks me out. I pray to god I can make it through the short ten months of class and pass my boards. My motivation is my kids because I'm sick of living pay check to pay check off a Cna salary. I have a feeling a lot of tears are going to be shed the next ten months

I would like to say congratulations for taking this on. I worked and went to school and looking back I would like to tell you to make sure you take time for the kiddos. There will be many evenings you will be deep in those books trying to remember the difference between irritable bowel, crones disease and cholecystitis.. right sided and left sided heart failure signs and symptoms.. phlebitis and infiltration.. hypo and hyperthyroidism.. the list goes on.. Get plenty of rest. Take care of you, then them, then schoolwork.. in that order.. make a schedule if possible, right down to meal planning. The better prepared you are after you come home from work the easier it is to sit down and do homework. I saw a lot of life and living pass me by but I stuck to it. I declined many offers to go out and have fun and I'm not saying you can't ever do that.. but when you are working, taking care of babies and going to nursing school you have to remember the goal is to graduate and pass those boards so you have to make your time count. It's not easy. I'm not going to lie. But if you say focused on your kids and your priorities you can DO IT! I know.. I did it! Best of luck to you. I would also highly recommend Saunders Comprehensive Study Book.. Start that at the very beginning of your coursework. I bought mine at the end and I wish someone would have told me.. NOOO buy that book at the beginning. I also used a google app Nclex prep.. it's very useful and again buy that at the beginning. Congratulations once again and GOOD LUCK! We are all here to encourage you as you make this adventure a reality! This site helped me all the way thru school!
