HI

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME POSTING ANYTHING AND I HOPE THAT THERE IS SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP ME. I AM A NEWLY SINGLE MOM OF TWO I HAVE BEEN A PATIENT CARE TECH FOR YEARS AND AFTER THE BIRTH OF MY DAUGHTER I MADE A DECSION TO BECOME A NURSE.

I AM 32 yo AND I NEED MONEY FOR SCHOOL. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING OUT THERE BESIDES LOANS. I HAVE ENROLLED AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND WILL START PREREQS IN THE FALL BUT I DON'T THINK FINANCIAL AID WILL COVER ME FOR THE ENTIRE PROGRAM BECAUSE I WILL HAVE TO WORK TO SUPPORT MY FAMILY AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS LESS OR NO FINANCIAL AID. I KNOW THAT THIS MESSEGE IS LONG I JUST HOPE THAT SOME ONE WILL TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT.

THANKS TO ALL!!!:redbeathe

I am a single parent of two. I took 3 years to get my pre-reqs done. I just got accpeted to nursing school and start in this summer. So far I have no debt. I worked about 16 hours a week, and was ablet to get grants from FASA, and I got a scholarship from my community college.

To finish the last two years and make it through nursing school, I might have to take on some loans.

I am a 34 year old single mom of two boys 8 and 11. I have been going to school at first p/t since they were 3 and 5. My ex left me in 2004, didn't pay support for most of that first year, drained the bank acct , and now pays less than the state guidelines in child support (well under)and I took NO alimony even though I was basically a SAHM. He has mental illness issues and in order for me to move out of state with my kids to shield them from those MI issues, live with my mom to finish school I made that financial deal. I got the most you can get from the Pell grant, my four year college paid the rest of my tuition, books, health insurance with scholarships and grants. Many states have programs that if you agree to work for two years or so they will pay your tuition or books. The perkins loan will forgive your loan (half if not all) if you become a nurse.I had really good grades during my prereqs so I did benefit from scholarship through the school. I did take out loans to live off of while I finished my prereqs and the last two years of nursing school. Been going full time to school since three weeks after my divorce became final in August 2005. Now I understand the loan issue, but decided as a last resort so I could live and spend the most time with my boys it was worth it. I took out $28,000. My payments will be about $350 a month but I look at it this way some people pay more than that for a car and my education will last my lifetime, hey and I consider my child support gravy money once I work so half of it will pay my monthly loan payment. I am proud to say despite how hard it was and there were days I wanted to just crawl up in a ball thinking I couldn't do it...that I am graduating with my bachelor's in 12 days, if all goes well on finals I will graduate cum laude, and I am being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the Nursing Honors Society. I am so proud of my achievements and didn't let the bastard get me down no matter how hard he tried. It is so worth whatever you have to do to make it happen if you really want to be a nurse.
