Hey! I'm about to graduate from the FNP program at Simmons.Let me know if I can answer any questions for you or otherwise be of help.
Thanks psych nurse! How have you found the program, overall? Also, share some details about the clinical experience? How easy/hard was it to find a preceptor? When you actually go to the clinical site, are you seeing patients independently, or is it always with the provider?
Overall, I think the program is good. It definitely felt intense at times! I really learned a lot. I've been told that Simmons has a reputation around Boston as being the "boot camp" school.
As far as clinicals go, I saw a lot of patients on my own. The way it usually seems to go for students is that we go in and get a history, do an assessment, and then present the patient to our preceptor. The preceptors will then often ask for some differentials and our ideas for next steps. I guess this is similar to what led students and residents would do.
Finding placements for all the students has been challenging in recent years, so you may not get what you want. If you have ideas for potential placements, do some footwork to try to make it happen!
Best of luck!!
I applied about 2 weeks ago and am still waiting to hear back. A little about my background I got my first bachelor's in biology and now my second in nursing. I actually left medical school to start nursing. I didn't want to deal with the debt and wanted a little bit of a life. So I took up nursing after seeing the patient centered care nurses provided and really love a diagnostic aspect to NP so I am pursuing that now. I can't wait to hear back and hopefully get to know each other!
