havent heard much chatter about the Simmons College DE 2010 applicants... anyone else out there apply as their first choice school and waiting to get in??
Accepted and attending as well.
I was a bit nervous about the FNP only change, but after some conversations with friends in the industry, it seems like a good idea.
Just finished all the financial info and ready for July 1st. Anyone get in touch via Facebook? Met one other guy (was happy to hear there would be at least one other inthe class). Always nice to know some people beforethe start.
Hi all,I've applied to both Simmons and MGH direct entry MSN - we are away, so I don't know if I've received my Simmons letter or not - I know some people heard via mail this weekend.
Would love to hear others' takes on the pros and cons of Simmons vs. MGH programs. I've heard from some nurses that they thought Simmons grads had stronger fundamental skills upon graduation, and I really like the internship part of the program. But I've heard very good things about MGH, as well, especially regarding their clinical opportunities at top-notch Boston hospitals. I have two children, so there is definitely some appeal to "free" summers.
Anyone else trying to make this choice? Would especially love feedback from recent grads of the programs, or professionals that have experience with grads from both programs. If Simmons if your first choice, what do you find most attractive?
Thanks!
Hello,
I was accepted to both Simmons and MGH programs... I'm split and can't decide which program has the most to offer. Any suggestions?? From what I've been told, both programs offer opportunities at similar clinical sites. I also live in Providence, so I was hoping to do some rotations in/around Providence.
Many thanks in advance!!
MGHIHP is pioneering (from what I heard) NP residencies which may be good or ba for you depending on how you view it (I wish Simmons was doing the same thing).
Simmons has an excellent clinical reputation and board pass rate. They also have a more well known national name if you plan on working put of state.
Both schools (in my opinion) are at the top of the game. I made my choice based on why I viewed as the best network and best clinical reputation. I would suggest visiting both schools and spending time with a current student at each.
Thank you. I'm trying to make my decision by the deposit deadline... so I need to make up my mind sooner rather than later. MGH has an open house this weekend which I plan to attend. However, Simmons does not. So I may just explore the campus somewhat. Chats such as this have been helpful in communicating with current/perspective students.
What is the NP residency you've mentioned? I've been communicating with 2 current students, neither of which has mentioned this.
I am only in class on Monday's but if you visit Simmons then I am sure you could sit in on one of our classes. I can also (try to) answer quesions you may have.
NP residencies are low pay high hour programs aimed at getting NPs more clinical hours, similar to the medical model. I had heard IHP was considering them though that may be farther out.

Hi,
I was also accepted at Simmons, so perhaps we'll meet each other soon!
I contacted ******* ****** in the nursing office via email, and she emailed me the form necessary to register for the dev. psych course. The form and payment are due by May 7.
Good luck!
