Simmons BSN 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi, Just starting a thread for anyone who applied to Simmons for a 2017 start. I applied for the two year BSN as a Dix Scholar.

Thanks! Now Im panicking about finishing my pre reqs on time and how expensive it is! I hope you get yours soon

Congrats! I honestly don't know what's taking so long. I thought by Wednesday I would get the decision letter. It's Friday and I still have nothing :( maybe tomorrow. How many more pre reqs do you have to go? I'm in organic chemistry, struggling. But, that's the only class I have left to take (thank goodness)

C, Chancy,

I'm SO sorry I know its agonizing to wait! Where are you located? It's probably on it's way to you!

I am finishing up A and P II and I still have to do Chem and MicroBio. I'm not even going to attempt an A with Chem, my admission letter said I needed to have all pre reqs done by august with minimum C so I'm just hoping for nice round B's!

I am local so I asked if I could meet a faculty member and sit in on a class. If there is anything you or anyone else on this thread is wondering about I can try to find out when I go. Everyone says its a great program, but yes it is expensive. I am borrowing money from family to finance it.

I take it you applied for the regular accelerated BSN format?

I live in Medford. I'm local! ☹️ I signed up for the two year (fall, spring, summer, fall, spring, summer). Ugh, I'll be taking loans / applying for any and every loan out there. 27 with no school debt. But, I knew my last two (4) years I'd be taking loans. So, I'm okay with that. I've speaking this acceptance into existence, I just hope I got in . I took A&P 1 and 2 along with micro. A&P is memorization for sure! While micro is based on concepts (at least that's how it felt for me). Where are you taking your pre reqs? I took all of mine at BHCC.

Got the letter. I didn't get in. Back to the drawing board.

Chancy,

I'm so sorry :( Are you in touch with Dayna the admissions counsellor? They generally encourage you to apply again because it is so ridiculously competitive. Maybe if you email her she can help guide you? I'm so very sorry, it must be devastating. Hugs to you

I've been communicating with Sydney. Not sure if you know who that is. The letter didn't state anything as to why I didn't get in. It just said something along the lines of space being an issue. And they thanked me for considering them. It's a hard pill to swallow. I emailed her and I'm just waiting to hear back if I can meet yo see what the issue was.

I have heard that the 2 year program is the most competitive for the Dix applications because many adults need to continue to work while doing the program. I'm sure it's not anything wrong with the application, just that they get so many people applying. I don't know who Sydney is, I was told Dayna Bradstreet was the counselor for all the Dix scholar applications. Maybe you can just ask how many applications they received and how many they admitted because I'm sure it was just that they had so many applications. I know it must be hard to process reapplying right now.

Hello everyone, glad i found this thread. i was accepted to the 16 months program fall 2017. Got my letter in November 2016. wanted to start in the spring and do the chemistry but i deferred to fall 2017. still hv to do the chemistry. Am a little worried about financing this program, so am still waiting for my financial package. i was accepted to UMASS Boston too but in the 2.5 year program but its way cheaper than Simmons and also my sister is in their program so i won't really have to spend on books. still undecided but i love Simmons and also the fact that i will be done in December 2018 compared to 2019 if i went to UMASS. Honestly am one confused individual but am glad i have two options to chose from. Will be making my final decision when my financial package arrives.

Does anybody have a friend in the 16 months program? and if yes, how do they find it. was looking at the fall curriculum and its jam packed. 16 credit units and all the courses are really tough.

Congratulations, its great that you have a choice of programs! I totally understand how much cheaper UMASS is and I think thats an mportant factor for sure.

I don't know anyone in the 16 month program but I went to an info session on it and they just it is the equivalent of having a full time job so plan on doing something 5 full days a week.

thank you for your response, yes its i can imagine.

hello everybody, just to give you an update, talked to my adviser about the schedule and this is what she sent me.The accelerated BSN program schedule is typically as follows:

  • Fall year 1-one day of classes with one day of lab or clinical
  • Spring year 1- one day of classes with two days of clinical
  • Summer-one day of classes with three days of clinical
  • Fall year 2-one day of classes with 2-3 days of clinical

Students in the ABSN program do very well and have high NCLEX pass rates. In terms of what contributes to student success in the program, I have noticed that those who do best and get the most from the program:

  • Do not work or have very limited work commitments
  • Have good organizational skills/systems
  • If they have family obligations, have support at home. Hope this helps.

Has anybody received their financial Aid package??
