Silly Question - Rotating Weekends

Can someone please explain to me how rotating weekends work with 12 hour shifts? Let's say you are scheduled to work Tue, Wed, Thur - will that mean the following week you will work Friday, Sat, Sun - and have all that time between Thur of week 1 and Friday of Week 2 off? Am I getting this right?

Also - how disruptive do you find rotating weekends to your personal wife - especially for the married folks with kids?

It depends on the schedule where you work. I have seen rotating weekends work many different ways. Try asking where you are interested in working. Thier rotation may be very different than some place else.

Be aware nothing is ever in stone when it comes to things like this. Scheduling practices change.

Actually working rotating weekends was more a a hassle to my personal life when I was young , single and had no kids. LOL. Now Im used to it and the kids are used to me not being around every other weekend. The only thing I really find it interferes with is the kids sports activities ...so my poor husband and parents get to run the kids around like crazy .

there are week day only jobs out there. It is just that they usually are not bedside jobs in a facility. Althought I have even seen that.

Check with your hospital policy. Here day shift's weekends are Sat. & Sunday, and they can work any other days during the week as long as every other Sat and Sun are worked.

Night shift on some of the units in my hospital can be working two of the three days fri., sat. or sunday. In other words working Friday and Saturday 7p to 7a fulfills the weekend requirement.

It's as the others have said, it depends on the place you work for.

I'm back to working every other weekend ( my previous job was every third) and I don't mind it too much. I rather like having some weekdays off. It makes running all my errands easier, the post office, grocery store, etc are alot less crowded. Going to museums and the like are also better.
