HI! I AM CURRENTLY IN MONTANA BUT PLANNING TO MOVE TO MINNESOTA BY NEXT MONTH. I AM LOOKING FOR A JOB ONLINE BUT I DON'T KNOW IF MINNESOTA EMPLOYERS OFFERS SIGN-ON BONUSES AND RELOCATION BONUSES? IS THERE A WAY I MAYBE ABLE TO KNOW THIS BEFORE I MOVED?

Hi Rosie,
Do you know where in Minnesota you’re moving to? I hate to be the bearer of potentially bad news, but nursing in Minnesota (at least in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area) is really tough right now. I can only speak for the metro area, but most major hospitals are laying off nurses, so I’m pretty sure that there are no sign-on bonuses or relocation bonuses. I’ve heard that even long-term care facilities are having to cut hours and the like, due to low census. So, the outlook in the metro at least is pretty grim.
If you wanted to talk to someone, I would recommend looking up the facility’s HR person; most places have this listed on their website. They should be able to answer more specific questions.
I hope that I was helpful; good luck with your move!

hi lola, thanks for the info. I am planning to move somewhere in st.cloud area or closer to my sister's place. She is in New LOndon, so probably Willmar to St.cloud area. Ya, i heard that news too. So i am hesistant to move but it's too hard to live here without any relatives closer to us. So i don't know. God will make a way i guess.thanks a lot.
Well, despite my downer of a message, I do believe that where there's a will, there's a way! I've heard good things about the hospitals and clinics in the St. Cloud area, and if you've got experience, you've definitely got the advantage out here. Good luck, and I hope someone from the St. Cloud area responds. They would probably know the situation better.
I've always wanted to move to Montana, actually--too bad we just can't trade places! (Although, I'm not a nurse yet; starting school this fall.)
:) lola

St Cloud Hospital is a good place to work (I've been there for almost 2 years) though you won't really find positions open right now. Rice Memorial in Willmar I think may have some openings (I think I saw something in the paper) and the VA may be hiring, too... there aren't public health positions around here right now, either... as for bonus/relocation around here, I wouldn't count on that - perhaps in some LTC, but I can't think of seeing even that for the past year or so... good luck!
FYI - https://www.minnesotaworks.net/ has some postings you don't always see in the papers.
