I had a patient that was receiving both potassium chloride and spironolactone...which I know is a potassium sparing drug, so can anyone tell me why she was receiving both?

Maybe her potassium was low.

Pretty much what the previous poster said, if a k was 3 you would still give potassium while also giving spironolactone. You probably would just want to monitor the k depending on the dose received

What were her lab results? Was she having any ectopy? Did she recently have a significant loss of potassium from vomiting, diarrhea, etc.?
