New grads in CT can expect to make $21-23 to start with no experience. Good tuition reimbursement -- $2,500 - $5,000 year; some facilities offer loan forgiveness programs; sign-on bonuses are common. NEGOTIATE -- don't believe that there is "one size fits all" regarding starting salaries for new grads.
Cost of living in CT is high -- just bought a gallon of skim milk for $3.39.
Starting pay in south Louisiana $14-18/hr + shift diffs (I'm including both smaller towns and New Orleans in this). Most of the LPNs I graduated with got credit for 1 year of experience no matter how long they'd been in the field. My friend who was a Navy medic was told by hospital recruiter that she'd get one year credit for that but didn't. The CNAs, MAs, etc in my class didn't get credit for any of that (that I'm aware of, anyway).
I have a friend in northwest Arkansas who told me nurses there are starting at $18/hr. She'll be graduating in a year, I believe.
With the shortage I don't think it's enough but what do I know? I'm just a nurse!!
