Mother-Infant Coupling
I am all for coupling, but what about the mom who was in labor fo 20 hours, and hadn't slept for a day and a half, delivers late, (9:30p.m.) and baby still needs bath, picture, hearing test and assessment? I didn't get to the post partum room til midnight. I had her with me before that, while I was stitched and whatever else went on. That was me, and the nurses, ever so graciously kept my baby for 3 hours, from midnight til 3 a.m., so I could get a couple hours sleep. I took her back at 3, fed her, and they took her for 2 more hours for me. BTW: we went home when her 24 hours were up.

Jessica's family's lawyer opposes medical mal. cap
Mshheadoc, if I read the article right, it said it woulnd't cap for the breadwinners, so your mom would be eligible for more than the 250K. God forbid anything like that happen. And if the Santillans aren't going to sue, why do they have a lawyer fighting to not cap?

Pregnant and working as RN
I worked on my due date, 1cm dilated and 50 % effaced, and still didn't have her for 8 more days! Good luck to you, do what is comfortable, and no more. I refused CMV and respiratory isolations, but our team leaders were very good at arranging assignments to accomodate.

consequences of medication errors
Our hospital does not fire for med errors, the occurance sheets are written purely to identify the problem. We had a nurse that gave chemo to a patient who wasn't even supposed to get chemo. Nobody gave him a hard time, on the contrary, the nurse manager stood behind him, as did his coworkers.

PRN Agency Nursing
Savagewist, do you mind telling which agency you work for? I do pretty much the same, and it takes a lot for me to work a 16 hour shift, but, I have to say, double time sounds pretty good, considering it would be close to $60 an hour.:)
