Should she tell why she's leaving?

Published

My sister in law is an LPN. She's looking for another job because of nasty working conditions --- vicious coworkers, administration, etc. She asked me if I thought she should tell management why she's leaving (after putting in a notice) or just keep quiet and leave. I told her to just leave. She thinks that her telling them could help change things for other nurses who choose to remain there.

The only good to come of telling something is to provide amusement for the person getting the brunt of your behavior at an exit interview so they can all laugh about you. Telling the employer what is wrong as you exit, only gives them a reason to be less than enthusiastic about recommending you. And believe me, they will say negative things, despite the "only tell dates" "rule". Just move on, and hope you don't get bad mouthed.

just tell her to give proper notice and don't burn her bridges so she can get a good recommendation from them. they probably already know why she is leaving and reminding them of how bad it is there is not going to do any good.

make sure to thank the company for the time you worked there and move on!
