HI everyone,

I just wanted to pick people's brains about a question I had. I am a recent December graduate from the Boston area and have passed my NCLEX in the state of Massachusetts. Because the job market for new graduate has been so difficult in Boston areas, I have begun to apply in the New York and New Jersey area where I am originally from as my family are still there. I have had no luck so far with job openings but I was wondering if it may be because my license is for Mass and not New York or New Jersey. Would it help my chances of getting hired if I transfered my license to the other states before applying for a job?

Hope someone can help me out! Thanks!!

I recently graduated in December myself and have been looking in New Jersey and have not had any luck...i went to a job fair in Teaneck and the lines to see the recruiters were long and mostly all of them said the hiring was scarce especially for a new grad...I heard the same thing with New York City...I do know that hospitals down the shore and maybe near Phillie are hiring...Good Luck..I am getting really discouraged and depressed....Look on this website for states that are hiring.

Transferring your license will not increase your chances of getting a job but i would start the process in case u get a job in that area. I had a Ma license and just transferred it to Maine ( got a job there) after going for several interviews.

In your cover letter, mention that u are in the process of endorsing your license.

I disagree--it would enhance your job opportunities if you were licensed in the state you are applying in. Sometimes it takes up to 3 months to get a nursing license and employers don't want to wait--it would be easlier to hire someone who could "start today." Rather than transferring a license, keep your license in Mass. and just get an additonal license in the state you are appling for.
