Should I take time off to study for my NCLEX-RN?

Published

Just curious what others in the past have done. I already have a job secured as an RN when I graduate. My manager said it will be PRN at the start. I also work PRN as a CNA at another hospital. I want to put my 2 week notice in for my CNA job. But I only work 1 time again in the next 2 months. Should I put it in for that date or should I attempt to work some shifts for money? My husband says I can take some time off if I want so money isn't our issue. Just curious if others advise to take the time off to study.

This is what I did. The last 3 weeks before my exam (after I received my ATT) I went from full time to part time only (16 hours a week). While at home I made a study plan following Saunders and studied every chapter thoroughly, taking notes of what I considered to be most important (all basic stuff, but I needed the refresher, and for me it works better when I write things down). Then I begin Kaplan Qbank again ( which I already finished in the past ) and UWorld. They are both great question banks , but I think UWorld is awesome, because you can open the app on your phone/tablet and practice anywhere and everywhere, in breaks, during lunch, etc.

Also, take notes from UWorld, because their rationales are amazing!! I passed NCLEX RN on my first try!

Now going back to your question: my personal advice is to cut back at hours at least, or take a short leave of absence. It works. I asked the same question a month before my NCLEX , and I received various answers. Some people have successfully passed NCLEX without taking any time off, but IMHO, is best to make plenty of time for rest and studying , rather than regret not doing it if you fail.

Good luck and remember to review all chapters, from whatever review book you're using! In my case content mattered greatly throughout my test!

Thank you! I guess I feel slightly bad about leaving my workplace now when I hardly work at all. My husband says I need a break to relax and to study. I think he wants me to pass on the first try so I can start working! Ahhaha! I have heard amazing things about Uworld. I havent personally known anyone who used it just see it on here. At my school we use Hurst review which I hear is super hard.... i was going to take 2-3 days and review every system and take every question I could. I really worry about forgetting some of the content..
