Should I take anatomy II over the summer?

Published

I'm taking a remedial math class this summer 3 days a week but I also wanted to take anatomy II . I got in a B in anatomy I last semester so I can't afford to get another B in A&P II, but I've heard a lot of good things about the teacher I would be taking. Also, I'm not the best at math so yeah.. what do you guys think? By the way, these classes are 7 weeks long.

7 weeks!? That is one easy and long summer course!!!!! If I made a B in a 4 week a&p class, you can do 7 seven weeks easy.

I think if you feel like you retained enough knowledge from A&P I to go do A&P II right away, and if you have the time to commit to a shorter and therefore more intense course, then you could go for it. Otherwise if you're not sure about how that base is that should have been developed in I, you can always just spend the summer refreshing what you learned on your own schedule (and maybe have a little more time to read the text!) and take II in the fall. Then you can rock it and get an A because you've had more time to prepare. :)

7 weeks?? I would not do it. Too much info in a short period of time. I took remedial math and it was fairly easy. It all came back to me after a couple of weeks. But A&P was all new so it is a lot to retain. Especially if you need an A.

What I learned by taking a short A&P summer class is that there was so much information that I spent more time cramming for exams than committing much information to memory. That being said, upon review most of it comes back or I at least have some ghost of a memory. I would just be prepared for A&P to be your life for that 7 weeks.

Good day, mozer92:

If ALL you were taking was AP2, then while it would be extremely hard in 7 weeks, it would be doable if you would be able to spend at least 12 to 24 hours per week studying in addition to class and lab time. However, you shared you are not good at math, and you are also taking a math class during this time period. Most math classes have a lot of homework. If you are not good at math, then that homework will take longer than average.

In my opinion, just take the math class, and save AP2 for a full semester.

Thank you.

I would do it. If you had a good grade in A&P 1 and want to get your degree faster, I would. I am also doing A&P 2 also in the summer. Except it is 8 weeks not 7. Also, if it is your only class it'd be a lot easier in my opinion. If you take another class in the summer, I would not see you doing too well in A&P. I would fully dedicate myself to A&P if you decide to take it in the summer. Plus, you get one of the hardest classes out of the way.

Personally, taking a 7 week course that is part of your base for your entire career on understanding the human body I would say no. I don't care what anyone tells you, you will not learn and retain your A&P II knowledge in a 7 week course that will be a "memory dump". You need A&P II in almost every nursing course. Especially respiratory, urinary, and ENDOCRINE. If you fail to truly learn these now, you will struggle and have to go back to review on top of nursing. I only recommend the A&P in the summer if it's at least 9 weeks and you've already taken it once. But if it doesn't matter to you if you retain it and can apply it as a nurse then by god do it.

Depends on how confident you feel about the material you took prior. You could potentially try it and if it doesn't go as planned you could always drop the course and take a W, but most people don't have the cash to burn. I personally took A&P II in 7 weeks over the summer. The professor was so awesome I actually felt I had a better understanding of harder material than I did for the longer A&P I course. Only you know how you feel about the subject.

I learned a lot in A&P I and feel very confident about how much I learned, I understand every concept and I got a B only because of the difficulty of the tests. I'm glad you did so well! I think I will too since other people have been able to do it too :)

You'll be fine. I took a&p as my first pre-reqs (feels so long ago!) and I had to go back and review for nursing tests anyways. (Resp., cardiac, etc) I think either way - you're going to have a review because it's pretty much throughout your reading anyways as far as nursing goes, in my med-surg book anyway. And anything I didn't really remember, I googled and then went "oh yea!! I remember now."

You'll be fine ;)

... It's a lot... And you may wanna become an alcoholic by the time you reach the end (haha totally kidding. Kinda.. Haha) but you'll be fine.

Be ready to ROCK a&p 24/7 for the course tho!!!!!
